2019: Creation of a fund

In July 2019, Rostec announced the launch of the Industry 4.0 investment fund, which will provide financial support to startups in the field of industrial technologies, robotics, artificial intelligence, digital doubles and new materials.

As the representative of Rostec told Vedomosti, the fund is registered in the form of an investment partnership, and it will be managed by a special company created by Rostec's subsidiary RT - Business Development.

Rostec launched a fund of 5 billion rubles to invest in AI developers and robots

The general director of this management company, Alexander Loktev, told the publication that the fund will receive capital in the amount of 5 billion rubles. Part of the funds is planned to attract from external investors: corporations, development institutions or financial institutions.

Loktev did not disclose to the publication the proportion of Rostec's external and equity capital. According to him, by the end of 2019, the total capital of the fund should reach 3 billion rubles. The return on the fund is estimated at 35% per annum.

The amount of investments will depend on the stage of development of the company, but will not exceed 300 million rubles. The fund will offer a convertible loan or share purchase (up to 49%). In total, Industry 4.0 plans to finance from 10 to 15 companies with the possibility of subsequent investments. The Fund will also look at international project prospects.

Rostec Investment Fund is going to provide financial support to young companies that have ready-made technologies and have already managed to get the first revenue from the sale of their solutions. Such startups will be offered to introduce their developments in Rostec subsidiaries, thereby accelerating the introduction of technology to the market.

The fund has already begun to invest in startups. So, the convertible loan Belarusian  grupperozum was granted Robotics  and also the 25 percent share in the Termolazer company developing machines for thermal hardening of a surface of metal by means of the laser is bought.[1]
