For March, 2015 reserve area is 210,000 hectares. The basis of the territory of the wildlife area is formed by Ivano-Arakhleysky lakes which are located in the tectonic hollow – the Beklemishevsky hollow, on a watershed of the Lensk and Angaro-Eniseysky basins, 960-980 m above sea level. In the hollow 6 large and more than 20 small lakes are located. Lakes Ivan and Tasey have a drain in the Lena River, and Lakes Arakhley, Shakshinskoye, Undugun and Irgen log in Lake Baikal. The total area of a water mirror of all lakes – more than 185 sq.km, the area of a reservoir is more than 1500 sq.km. The majority of reservoirs of the wildlife area shallow-water (3-5 m), an exception is the lake Arakhley with the largest depth of 17 m. Water in lakes net, low-mineralized, well gets warm under hot beams of the summer sun that attracts a huge number of vacationers on their coast. In the territory of the wildlife area about 200 recreation facilities, 10 sports camps are located. Every year on lakes more than 220 thousand have a rest human.

Vegetation of the wildlife area differs in a big variety, only land vascular plants there are about 560 types here. The woods are provided by a larch, a pine, a birch; meadow and marsh types on the coasts consist of a sedge, a sabelnik marsh, a buttercup creeping, etc. Rare and endangered species of krasivotsvetushchy plants are provided krasodnevy small, a lily pennsylvanian, by a shoe spotty, a kupalnitsa Asian, etc.

In the territory of the wildlife area 147 bird species, 37 species of mammals, 3 species of Amphibia, more than 800 species of insects are mentioned. Under the international protection there are 5 bird species: Sapsan, white crane, gray crane, belladonna and bustard. Ivano-Arakhleysky lakes are considerable fishery reservoirs of East Transbaikalia. Main types of fishes: crucian, small fry and perch. The small percent is made by a pike, an omul, a bream and a catfish, Yelets, a shchipovka and three species of minnows.

1995: Creation of the wildlife area

The Ivano-Arakhleysky state natural landscape wildlife area of regional value is created in 1995 and is especially protected natural territory.
