Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works of KUMZ

The plant releases from aluminum and aluminum alloys ingots, flat-rolled products, profiles, pipes welded, pressed and boring, bars, a wire, stampings of any configuration, disks for passenger and trucks, heat exchangers for fridges, the colored profiles and constructions, gofrolist.

For labor progress in development of production and in implementation of the new equipment in June, 1978 the Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works is awarded the order by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR the Labour Red banner.

New technologies and science

Many achievements in the field of metallurgical technology, scientific developments and technical solutions underwent the industrial approbation on KUMZE:

• development and mastering of aluminum-lithium alloys;
• creation of the highly effective heat resisting materials received by method of powder metallurgy;
• mastering of the production technology of pipes from unique alloys and boring pipes from alloy 2024;
• mastering of production of coloring of profiles polymeric powder paints and assemblies of building constructions from them;
• reconstruction of two high-speed lines of pressing of lengthy profiles.

With development in the country of the program of space exploration the plant by one of the first started accomplishment of orders of the space industry. Products of the plant were used in spaceships: "East", Voskhod, Snow-storm, in space stations: "Salute" and World, JSC "Proton" launch vehicles, transport ships "Union" and "Progress". The plant participates in creation of the International Space Station and in the program Sea Launch.

Export

Now the big share of products of KUMZ is made for export. Aluminum semi-finished products are delivered to 46 countries of the world — Europe, Northern and Southern America, Asia, Africa, Oceania. According to requirements of the main world consumers of aluminum semi-finished products the quality system, products, production are certified: ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9100 (2006 — 2009 SGS company, in 2009 Tϋv company), ISO 14001, OHSAS 18000, Lloyd’s Register, the Interstate Aviation Committee, Det Norske Veritas, Nadcap.

Social policy

Historically it developed so that existence of a large number of large industrial enterprises in the city of Kamensk-Uralsky, since the beginning of the 1950th years resulted in staff shortage and fight of the enterprises, both for the qualified engineers, and for workers. The solution of a housing problem was the first argument in this fight. Near KUMZOM there is rather isolated settlement of Chkalov. Normal speed of construction of housing for the 1980th are about 11000 m² a year. For the employees the plant solves problems with kindergartens, medical support, leisure:

• In 1945 the central platform with the gymnastic town, the tennis court, racetracks and places for volleyball and soccer is created.
• In 1949 the Metallist stadium is constructed.
• In 1964 the factory House of sport Metallurgist is built.
• In 1966 the factory clinic, in 1967 — children's clinic in Chkalov's settlement is open.
• In 1967 (according to other data in 1969) the boat station "Metallurg" is put into operation (the operating boat station only now in the city).
• In 1969 the Metallurg palace of culture is constructed.
• In 1979 the new therapeutic body is started.
• In 1991 the plant purchases country base "Luch" on the bank of the lake Chervyanoye.
• In 1992, construction of new school with a winter garden in the settlement of Chkalov is finished.

Annually on the eve of New year the plant erects the ice (snow) town which on holidays is open for a garden leave on the square in front of Metallurg palace of culture.

History of the company

• On June 3, 1939 - the resolution on construction of the plant.
• On February 14, 1942 - the first melting of the Kamensk aluminum is released.
• On September 1, 1943 - the smithy is started up in operation.
• On November 7, 1943 - the first products of profile and press workshop are issued.
• On May 5, 1944 - the end of construction of the plant.
• On April 7, 1945 - the first sheet products are issued.
• 1949 - release of stamped products.
• 1951 - the forge and press workshop is put into operation.
• 1957 - the new foundry workshop is put into operation.
• 1966 - start of the line of welded panels.
• 1972 - the first stage of workshop of boring pipes is started up.
• 1982 - the line of release of ware with internal protivoprigarny coating is put into operation.
• 1984 - the camp of cross and screw rolling is started.
• 1989 - production of parabolic mirrors is developed.
• 1990 - manufacturing techniques of connector stampings of a railway axle box, automobile wheels are mastered.
• 1992 - the new pipe welding camp is started.
• 1993 - the new line of production of evaporators is developed.
• 1994 - the technology of high-speed pressing is mastered.
• 1997 - the line of coloring by powder paints and production of building constructions is started.
• 2000 - delivery of liquid aluminum from UAZ is performed.
• 2003 - the equipment of a camp of hot rolling – the winder with a zakhlestyvatel is put into operation.
• 2004 - the line of longitudinal cutting of aluminum sheets is entered.
• 2004 - anniversary of the plant of 60 years.
• 2004 - the winner of the main public award of the country "Russian national Olympus" in the nomination "the Industry. Production".
• 2005 - the beginning of construction of new workshop on production of plates for the aerospace industry.
• 2006 - KUMZ received the certificate of a quality management system on compliance to requirements of the AS/EN 9100 standard.
• 2007 - on the industrial platform KUMZa the ChKALOVSKIY project on production of aviation plates is started.
• 2008 - KUMZ received the certificate according to the Nadcap system.

2019: KUMZ in 2019 reduced revenue under RAS, but became profitable

For 2019 the proceeds from sales of products were 28.728 billion rubles that below an indicator of 2018 (29.312 billion). Profit in a year, according to consolidated financial statements, – 1.258 billion rubles. In the report on financial results net profit – 1.681 billion rubles while for 2018 the loss in 447 million rubles is shown. The enterprise also shows decrease in accounts payable. On the consolidated financial reporting, the volume of short-term loans and loans was reduced from 17.909 to 12.680 billion rubles. However on long-term loans there was a small growth from 27.452 to 27.696 billion rubles. In the first quarter 2020 the enterprise announced growth of production volume of products, in March, 2020 they increased by 4.6% by March, 2019. KUMZ is included in the list of the systemically important enterprises of Sverdlovsk region.
