2025: Preparations for the opening
At Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov, they are preparing to launch a scientific and clinical center for mountain medicine. The university announced this on April 9, 2025. Located in the Elbrus educational and scientific complex of the university, the center will become a key link in the development of medical tourism, rehabilitation and adaptation to the conditions of the highlands.
The center will bring together five structural units, offering a wide range of services: from diagnostics to rehabilitation and sports training. The laboratory equipped with modern equipment will also allow advanced scientific research. One of the main tasks will be to help participants in a special military operation (SVO) - here fighters will be able to recover from heavy loads, and servicemen will be able to adapt to high-altitude conditions before business trips.
For patients and tourists, specialist consultations, ECG, coagulogram, assessment of blood oxygen levels and respiratory function are provided. The center also specializes in the treatment of neuroses, thyroid disease, endocrine system, asthenia and depressive conditions. A separate direction is rehabilitation after stroke, pneumonia, bronchitis and asthma. Particular attention is paid to helping climbers suffering from hypoxia.
According to experts, the mountain climate of the Caucasus prepares the body for high loads, it is for this reason that athletes of different directions: from boxers to biathletes hold training camps in the Elbrus region.
Athletes in the center will be offered an integrated approach: instrumental and laboratory studies, consultations of doctors, as well as individual training plans taking into account physiological features.
Equipped with laboratories and diagnostic equipment, the center's base will become a platform for scientific research. KBSU scientists plan to study the impact of the highlands on the body, develop new methods of therapy and adaptation. The project is also aimed at creating an educational cluster: students of medical and tourist destinations will be able to undergo practice, participating in interdisciplinary projects - said Ismail Miziev, director of the medical academy of KBSU. |
Our goal is to create a cluster that uses the natural resources of the Caucasus to develop therapy, medical tourism and education. This will allow Kabardino-Balkaria to occupy a niche in the rapidly growing medical tourism market. Our goal is not only to treat, but also to create infrastructure that is attractive to Russians, "said Ramazan Ligidov, director of the Institute of Management, Tourism and Hospitality Industry of KBSU. |
The opening of the center is scheduled for the coming months. The success of the project can turn the republic into the main Russian center of mountain health medicine. The integration of science, clinical practice and tourism will open up new opportunities for research, training and development of the region.
