Performance indicators

2023: Russian server maker OpenYard boosted revenue by 1,221.4% to profit

The Open Development Center company, which produces servers under the OpenYard brand, published its 2023 results in March. The company's revenue increased to 1.6 billion rubles (an increase of 1221.4%), while the cost of sales increased to 1.4 billion rubles (an increase of 871.7%). The company's net profit for the reporting period amounted to 29.6 million rubles, although the previous two years the company recorded losses.

The growth rate of these indicators is quite high, but the company only at the end of 2023 began to actively supply equipment produced at its own facilities.

One of the key tasks of 2023 for OpenYard was the launch of its own production site, the company explained to TAdviser. - In addition, the driver was the task of promptly increasing production volumes, as well as expanding the brand's product line. The main driver for the development of OpenYard in 2024 is the growth of hyperscalers in Russia. Moreover, this growth refers not only to the number of data centers, but also to their performance. The products of the flagship OpenYard line allow you to close the growing needs of such data centers. Creating effective technology alliances is another task that the company assesses as a driver of its own development.

It should be noted that the main revenues - 14.7 billion rubles - in the reporting are attributed to other revenues. At the same time, revenues from the sale of products amounted to only 1.0 billion rubles. Most likely, this is due to the fact that real sales of the equipment produced began only at the end of the year, when the company launched its own plant 15 km from Ryazan on the territory of the Ryazansky industrial park.

Apparently, "Other Receipts" means the prepayment of products that will be produced at the company's factories during this year. The company itself declined to comment on TAdviser at this point, citing the NDA.

Since 2013, the OpenYard brand servers have been manufactured at Asian facilities, but from 2021 until the launch of its own plant, the company produced equipment from a contract manufacturer in Russia. In December 2023, she launched a full-cycle plant for the production of computing equipment with a capacity of 60 thousand devices per year.

In addition to production, the company is also engaged in the development of its own technologies: in the section of the report "Research and Development Results," which indicates the products of the company's intellectual property, the amount of 14.6 million rubles is indicated.

The current assets of the Open Development Center increased to 3.2 billion rubles (an increase of 116.3%), and capital and reserves - to 2.1 billion rubles (an increase of 61.7%). At the same time, the company had to increase payables to 1 billion rubles, which is indicated in short-term liabilities. And in early liabilities, a small amount (224 thousand rubles) of deferred tax liabilities.

The company's net assets increased from 1.3 billion rubles in 2022 to 2.1 billion rubles by the end of 2023.

Yandex announced the exit from the joint venture for the production of OpenYard servers

Yandex and Lanit Ventures LLC each owned 50% of the Open Development Center LLC. According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (USRUL), from October 25, 2023, instead of Lanit Ventures LLC, half of the joint venture is owned by Dmitry Kazansky's Digital Technologies company, registered in August 2023.

By the end of October 2023, OpenYard designs servers, storage systems, gateways and components of smart devices and plans to produce them at its own plant near Ryazan. According to a Forbes source in the IT market, OpenYard has a team of engineers, technologies for producing servers according to its own design, and the company previously released a test batch in contract production in Russia. By the end of October 2023, mass production has not yet begun, the source said.

According to Forbes, Yandex decided to concentrate more on its profile activities, given that "in the context of difficulties with the supply of equipment and sanctions risks, the project takes a lot of resources and attention."[1]

Completion of the construction of a computer plant in Ryazan

Yandex, the group of companies LANIT"" Taiwan and the manufacturer electronic engineers Gigabyte completed construction the plant for the production of computer equipment in. This was announced Ryazan on May 19, 2023 by the press service of the deputy. State Duma of the Russian Federation Anton Nemkin It is planned to launch production in 2023, and by 2024, the produced equipment, according to partners, may occupy about 10% of the market. Such enterprises are actively launched in other regions of ours, the countries appearance of each new player has a positive impact on the market as a whole, experts are sure.

The agreement on the construction of such a plant "Lanit," VTB and the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Gigabyte signed back in 2021. Now the equipment is planned to be announced in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in order to gain access to public procurement, said Maxim Koposov, director of the server and DSS manufacturer Bitblaze Promobita. At the same time, Yandex clarified that production had not yet been launched.

According to experts, more than half of server sales in pieces in Russia are accounted for by foreign manufacturers - Huawei, HP, Dell and others. Among Russian vendors, the top three are Yadro, Aquarius and Kraftway. However, by the end of 2024, after the necessary debugging of production, OpenYard equipment will be able to occupy about 10% of the domestic market.

Yandex's participation in the production of equipment is primarily due to the fact that in this way the company will be able to be confident in its effectiveness and security against threats in the face of growing threats in the digital segment around the world, says Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications.

Such a large corporation as Yandex certainly needs high-quality equipment that will work reliably. You can achieve such a result only by independently controlling its production, which is what the company has done. Given the indisputable authority of Yandex, many companies will later want to use the servers produced with its participation, although competition in this segment is growing very actively, he said.

By creating its own servers, Yandex, first of all, reduces its dependence on foreign vendors, says Ivan Pokrovsky, executive director of the Association of Developers and Manufacturers of Electronics.

I think that other large Russian data center operators may follow this example. If you look at the global owners of data center infrastructure, such as AWS (Amazone), Alphabet (Google), they have already moved from creating their own servers to developing their own processors. And this allows you to even increase the manageability and security of the infrastructure. In Russia, dozens of companies produce servers, but few are able to develop their own motherboards, coprocessor modules, especially microprocessors. I hope that with the development of its own production, Yandex will become one of the locomotives of Russian developments of microprocessor technology, "he said.

It was possible to significantly increase the share of Russian products both in the general and regulated market. In the market as a whole, our volumes reach about 19%, we are going to maintain the same level until the end of the year. We are confident that the figure of 20% will step over, - the media quoted him as saying.
