2017: IT systems of all Copenhagen hospitals fail
On August 4, 2017, a large-scale computer failure occurred in all hospitals in Copenhagen, as a result of which IT systems failed for several hours. Authorities say the hackers have nothing to do with what happened.
Problems in the medical institutions of the Danish capital began at 7:20 local time. Computers, medical platforms, telephony and a call center turned out to be non-working. Many patients who came to hospitals were sent home, as medical staff were deprived of access to the necessary systems. In particular, it was impossible to donate blood for analysis, the Danish representative office of ComputerWorld notes.
Today's failure was due to an error that arose during the standard procedure for the central network component, said the Danish Capital Region, which is responsible for Copenhagen's public hospitals and for regional development. |
Earlier, the city authorities reported that it was premature to conclude whether there were problems due to cyber attacks.
At 10:25 am, an official statement was made that all systems had resumed their work. It was also noted that the network malfunction did not affect the operation of the ambulance, since it has its own servers, which were not affected. The consequences of the disruption have yet to be assessed.
As of early August, Copenhagen's hospitals have about 39,400 staff.[1]
Earlier, the Danish National Patient Association released data according to which patients stay in hospital in medical institutions for only three days, which is much less compared to other Europeans.
The development of medicine in Denmark is at a high level. We try to do quick and at the same time gentle surgical operations effectively. People leave hospitals because they feel better, "said Ulla Astman, chairman of the Danish Regions Health Committee. |
