2019: Kuka Group Structure

By April 2019, the Kuka Group's business structure included the following divisions:

  • Kuka Robotics (robot development);
  • Kuka Systems (introduction of robots);
  • Swisslog (subsidiary).

2018: 6.8% drop in revenue to €3.24 billion

In 2018, the Kuka group recorded revenues of €3.24 billion, down 6.8% from a year earlier. The company received orders worth 3.31 billion euros, which is 8.5% less than the result of a year ago. Moreover, the volume of orders decreased for the first time in at least five years.

Kuka's robot development unit ended 2018 with sales of €1.18 billion. This is 1.5% less than in 2017. Orders here decreased by 1.6% to 1.2 billion euros.

In the Kuka Systems division, revenue in 2018 dropped 17.6% compared to the previous year and amounted to 1.3 billion euros. Kuka Systems is a global integrator that based on Kuka robots "invents entire pipelines, new solutions and other interesting toys that are used from space to medicine," the company's website says.

The report also presents the performance of a subsidiary that Swisslog was acquired by Kuka in 2014 for $357 million. This developer of robots health care for and warehouses in 2018 turned out to be growing: its sales increased by 7.3%, reaching 819.3 million euros. True, orders from Swisslog decreased by 9.8% to 835.5 million euros.

Almost half of the Kuka group's revenues are in EMEA countries (Europe, Middle East, Africa). The share of the countries of the Americas is measured at about 30%, the remaining 20% is revenue in Asia and Australia.

Kuka's net profit in 2018 compared to 2017 decreased by 81.2% and amounted to 16.6 million euros. The company's financial downturn was largely a consequence of the slowing Chinese economy, despite the long-term appeal of the robot market.

Simultaneously with the publication of the annual report, Kuka announced a program to reduce costs by 300 million euros by 2021. This plan includes the dismissal of 350 full-time employees in Augsburg (Germany) during 2019. Link to Kuka's 2018 report.
