2015: Hitachi Data Systems purchased Pentaho company

The Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) corporation, affiliated enterprise Hitachi, Ltd., announced in February, 2015 the intention to purchase Pentaho Corporation.

Purchase of Pentaho became the largest acquisition of the company in the field of Big Data. The deal is supposed to be closed by June, 2015. Pentaho will save the brand and "Pentaho, Hitachi Data Systems subsidiary company" will be called. The company will still adhere to the existing business model and to work under the leadership of the CEO Quentin Gallivan who will submit to the senior vice president of HDS for social innovations and the global industries Kevin Eggleston.

The software and expert knowledge of Pentaho will allow to expand a product portfolio and services of HDS, and to bring to the market new technologies for Big Data quicker. The unique complex of products intended for the solution of specific tasks based on the general analytical platform will become result. The shared platform will integrate and will coordinate different technologies that will allow developers to add new functionality based on the existing technologies, providing an operational response to changes of business needs.

Acquisition is a result of OEM partnership of two companies and will become a crucial element of strategy of HDS designed to accelerate development of the business direction of social innovations. Social innovations — the integrating strategy for all business divisions Hitachi directed to creation of solutions which help to make life of society healthier, safe and reasonable. The concept of Pentaho consists in development of new opportunities due to use of the data connected among themselves generated by people and devices. It is implemented in practice using the platform for coordinating of Big Data which forms a basis for the built-in means of analytics.

Within the strategy of social innovations of Hitachi, HDS actively promotes use of the devices connected to network, sensors and the systems of Internet of Things capable to improve business and to improve life of society — in other words, technologies which value for society more and more increases. In June, 2015 Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) announced completion of the transaction on acquisition of Pentaho specializing in area of solutions for integration, visualization and data analysis. Under the terms of the transaction of Pentaho will save the existing brand and will independently work, under the name "Pentaho, Hitachi Data Systems subsidiary company". The post and the director of the company Quentin Gallivan who will submit to the senior vice president of HDS for social innovations and the global industries Kevin Eggleston now will save. The Pentaho platform will still be on sale separately. Besides, HDS integrated it into the software of the expanded analysis, having added the existing technologies of the analysis and processing of Big Data and having expanded possibilities of the rich product portfolio and services in the field of information management.

It is expected that integration of the Pentaho platform will allow HDS to expand opportunities in the field of data management, their integration, cleaning, monitoring and coordination, and to offer clients a packet of analysis systems of data, unique on the functionality. This packet will be used when developing solutions in the field of social innovations and will provide the maximum implementation of capacity of Internet of Things, helping the companies to accelerate obtaining benefit thanks to extraction of valuable information from the available data and promoting creation of more intellectual, safe, healthy and effective society.
