Biography and career

McMaster in Hamilton, the State of Ontario, USA gained the bachelor's degree on computer technologies and management of the University.

Worked as the chief executive of Juniper Networks, the president on international markets of Adobe Systems, before merger of Adobe of Macromedia company held a position of the president and CEO of the company.

Microsoft и Nokia

Since January, 2008 Stephen Elop supervised division of business solutions of Microsoft, headed the groups Information Worker, Microsoft Business Solutions and Unified Communications. Directs development and promotion of office software products, server solutions, Microsoft Dynamics lines and also solutions for a segment of medium and small business and others.

In September, 2010 it is appointed the head of Nokia company.

In 2014 returned to Microsoft as a result of purchase of telephone business of Nokia by the company. On return it held a post of the head of division of Microsoft Devices Group.

2015: Leaving Microsoft

On June 17, 2015 Microsoft announced resignation of several key top managers, including Stephen Elop.

According to the statement of Microsoft, Stephen Elop leaves the company, leaving a post of the executive vice president of division of Devices Group (supervises development of smartphones, tablets and game consoles). The CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella commented on resignation of the former head of Nokia as follows:

"Stephen and I agreed that now suitable time for its leaving Microsoft. I regret for loss of such leader and I will look forward to news about the new place of its work".

During Stephen Elop's guide of Nokia did not achieve good results in the market of smartphones. Moreover, the market share of the company constantly decreased — to 3.1% in 2013 from 5% and 15.9% in 2012 and 2011 respectively (data of IDC). After several years of failures of Nokia it was forced to get rid of telephone business, having sold it to Microsoft. There as a result Elop, but as it appeared, for a while returned.

In addition to Elop, in September, 2015 Microsoft will be left by the vice president and chief strategy officer Mark Penn. He is going to be engaged in creation of a private equity fund and, perhaps, to return to political activity, notes the The Verge edition.[1]

Besides, Microsoft terminates the employment contract with the executive vice president of division of Business Solutions Kirill Tatarinov and the vice president for strategy Eric Rudder.

Within personnel reorganization of Microsoft the vice president for operating systems Terry Myerson headed new division of Windows and Devices Group which after Elop's resignation included department of Devices Group. Thus, one structure will be responsible for development of Windows platforms, video game consoles and mobile devices.

Other top managers of Microsoft, including the executive vice president of Cloud and Enterprise Group Scott Guthrie and the head of Applications and Services Group Qi Lu, remained on the places.

"These changes will allow us to release quicker the best products and services which are fallen in love to our clients" — Satya Nadella told.
