Biography

Born in 1965 in Tashir, Armenia.

1986 - graduated from the Engineering Department of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute.

1986-1992 - Technologist and director at the Tashir Enamel Plant.

1989 - created the Zenit cooperative for the production of rubber products and parts for cars. Organizes sewing production.

1992 - registered as a joint-stock company "Kaluga Commercial Intermediary Company," or OAO "Kalugglavsnab"[1]

1996 - headed and later bought OJSC Kalugglavsnab, on the basis of which Samvel [3] created the Tashir group].

2025: Detention in Armenia on charges of public calls for power grab

The struggle of Armenian President Nikol Pashinyan with the Armenian Apostolic Church in June 2025 reached a new level. Russian-Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, head of the Tashir group of companies, was detained for speaking out in support of the AAC. Pashinyan regarded the speech as a threat.

Karapetyan condemned the authorities for "attacks on the centuries-old foundations of the Armenian Church." He promised to take a "direct part" in the situation.

Pashinyan wrote on social networks about the "dissolute benefactor" and threatened that "the taste of the state will remain in your mouth": "This is not the village of Nizhny Tapr in Kaluga for you - this is the Republic of Armenia." By the way, there is no such village in the Kaluga region.

On June 17, 2025, special forces broke into Karapetyan's house in Yerevan and conducted searches. About 50 supporters were detained at his residence.

Pashinyan's regime arrested Karapetyan only from the second time. The businessman was supposed to be detained by the National Security Service, but he was allowed to leave his house. Today Pashinyan fired the head of the National Security Service Armen Abazyan, who, judging by rumors, refused to detain Karapetyan because of personal relations.

On June 18, Karapetyan was detained by the security forces to combat organized crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia on charges of public calls for the seizure of power.

Pashinyan also announced his intention to nationalize the Electric Networks of Armenia, a key asset of the Russian Tashir Group of Companies, which is owned by Karapetyan.

At the same time, in Azerbaijan, Karapetyan is wanted on charges of supplying weapons to Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020.
