2023: Arrest on sexual assault charges

On October 5, 2023, David Scott, senior vice president of Exxon Mobil, was arrested at the low-cost La Quinta Inn & Suites in Magnolia, Texas. A top manager who oversees the entire shale business of the named oil company is suspected of sexual crimes.

Scott, 49, was detained after a call from one of two women he was with at a hotel near Exxon Spring headquarters. One of his companions went down to the hotel hall, from where she called the police. The man was charged with second-degree assault (sexual assault): such an atrocity entails imprisonment for a term of 2 to 20 years. The amount of collateral for the top manager is set at $30 thousand. Exxon Mobil confirmed the arrest of Scott, but refused to disclose any details.

We can say that this person will not perform his official duties during the investigation. All Exxon Mobil employees, officers and directors are responsible for the highest standards of integrity and code of conduct, said Emily Mir, spokeswoman for the company.

As of October 2023, Scott has been with Exxon Mobil for more than 26 years. He joined the Melbourne division of the company as an engineer, after which he performed duties in Malaysia and the UAE. In 2020, Scott became the head of Exxon Mobil's Perm Basin division, and in early 2023 he was appointed senior vice president in charge of all shale oil and gas production. The top manager took part in some of the company's most important oil and gas projects. Scott's arrest comes amid talks over Exxon Mobil's purchase of shale producer Pioneer Natural Resources Co. The amount of this transaction is estimated at $60 billion.^[1]
