Stan Shih is the Taiwan entrepreneur, the founder and the chairman of the board of Acer company.
Biography
Came from the simple family living in the seaport of Lukan on the western coast of Taiwan. His family was so poor that it put on the first leather boots, having entered the university. At school he was an excellent student on mathematics, but at the same time differed in excessive shyness.
In 1980 the Multitech International company began to make personal computers, the first on Taiwan. According to a number of the western newspapers, at the same time substantial assistance to firm was provided by the Taiwan government interested in creation of own computer industry. However, the management of Acer denies existence of any government aid to firm — except "whole-hearted moral support".
In several years Stan Shih tried to enter with the equipment the American market and detected ten firms with the name Multitech there. He decided to give to the company a new name — surely beginning on the letter "A" to get on the first pages of reference books and directories. After short search the word of Acer was selected that in Latin means "prompt".
On November 21, 2013 the Acer corporation announced election of the founder of Acer company Stan Shih as the new chairman of the board of corporation[1].
