2022: Appointment as CEO of Toshiba
On March 1, 2022 the Japanese technological company Toshiba reported that its board of directors decided that the executive director and the senior vice president of corporation Taro Shimada, will replace the CEO Satoshi Tsunakava on a post. The change of head occurred against the backdrop of the conglomerate seeking shareholder approval of a restructuring plan aimed at restoring the reputation and competitiveness of the business.
Taro Shimada held senior positions at Siemens, both in Japan and the United States, and then in 2018 moved to Toshiba and worked in the field of digital operations. The new CEO has the task of leading a restructuring plan, which has attracted criticism from shareholders due to the fact that Toshiba plans to split into two companies, one of which will specialize in infrastructure and the other on devices.
I work for the company a little, namely since 2018, but I love Toshiba. I am proud to be the first CEO with digital experience and hope this will be an advantage for Toshiba's energy business. Working in the United States, I understood the importance of communication on an equal footing, and in particular of such a concept as - put yourself in the place of another, "said Toshiba CEO Taro Shimada. |
The restructuring proposal is still subject to approval by shareholders and regulators. An extraordinary meeting of shareholders is scheduled for March 24, 2022, when the plan will be put to a vote. Toshiba representatives told reporters that a change in management should occur before that, although it is unclear how this will help attract shareholders to their side. The company's reputation was also marred by an accounting scandal, during which books were forged for many years.[1]
