2023: Appointment as CEO of JD.com
On May 11, 2023, the Chinese e-commerce corporation JD.com announced the appointment of a new CEO. Xu Lei, who led the company for about a year, decided to resign for "personal reasons."
Lay worked in the JD.com for more than 10 years in various positions. He notably served as CEO of JD Retail, chief marketing officer of the corporation, head of JD Wireless, and head of marketing. As president of the company, Lay was responsible for the operations and development of various business units.
It is noted that Xu Lei leaves the post of general director of the JD.com in order to spend more time with his family. At the same time, he will join the company's advisory board as its first chairman and will take part in project management, as well as in strategic planning.
The new CEO of JD.com will be Sandy Xu Ran, who previously served as the corporation's chief financial officer. Prior to joining JD.com in 2018, she worked for almost 20 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, an international network of companies offering consulting and auditing services. Sandy Xu Ran will become the third CEO of the JD.com and the first woman to hold this post. At the same time, Shan Su, CFO of JD Logistics, will assume the duties of CFO of the JD.com as a whole.
Market participants believe that the reshuffle in the leadership team marks the completion of the main restructuring process aimed at improving the efficiency of business processes and improving financial performance. Xu Lei noted that JD.com will continue to increase the number of third-party suppliers on its platform, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises.[1]
