- The future of city mobility from Bosch: zero emissions, absence of a stress and accidents on roads
- The company implemented 14 pilot projects of the smart cities worldwide
Bosch becomes the supplier of mobile services for city agglomerations. In the future the company will focus on development and providing mobile solutions for the smart cities connected to the Internet. In the world fast-growing demand in the field of conceptual transport solutions for city infrastructure is observed. Megalopolises are filled to the full worldwide. In many locations there is a danger of a complete stop of work of transport. More and more people return to the cities or intend to live there in the future. By 2050 more than six billion people – twice more, than will live today in megalopolises. By then traffic on streets of the cities will be created. Taking into account that about two thirds of world's population in 2050 will represent urban population and with the continuing growth of an urbanization, also the number of problems will increase.
Besides, increase in number of the people who are in limited space will cause gain of traffic, so air quality degradation, reduction of number of green zones, increase in noise and time which inhabitants will spend in traffic jams.
Mobility in which there is no place to harmful emissions, stresses or accidents
In July, 2017 Bosch showed how the company creates the future of city mobility.
"Our efforts designed to help with creation of the urban environment without harmful emissions, stresses and accidents are based on three technology developments: automation, electrification and automobile technologies with Internet connection", – Dr. Rolf Bulander, the board member of Robert Bosch GmbH and the head of the business sector of the Solution for mobility says. The main objective for Bosch is in helping people to reach from a point And a point of B without stress. To achieve it in the conditions of the noisy megalopolis, it is necessary to ensure harmonious functioning of public transport, cars and also the pilotless vehicles used in carsharing services and the delivery services and also other means of transport. In other words, all types of city transport should be connected with each other. "Multimodal transport services which can be ordered by means of several clicks will begin to play a key role in reduction of traffic jams on streets of the cities", – he says.
Growth of automation of city traffic will also allow to increase traffic safety and to reduce number of accidents. Even today management systems for stability of the MSC motorcycles represent some kind of ESP system for motor-transport. Besides, recently provided ABS system for electrobikes can also play an important role in rescue of lives.
"Connection to the Internet of cars, motor-transport, other participants of traffic and all infrastructure will allow to reduce number of accidents and, respectively, to reduce the number of the potential victims. "For example, in developing countries in a zone of the increased risk – drivers of scooters and motorcycles", – Bulander says. And one of the solutions developed by Bosch for this market is a digital helmet for motorcyclists. And in case of accident the eCall service created especially for motor-transport allows to save lives.
The electric transport and internal combustion engines for purer air
In city agglomerations of one of the largest problems there is still an air quality. With respect thereto the Bosch Group set a goal to create city transport with the minimum level of emissions. "Both the electric transport, and internal combustion engines will be involved in the cities of the future in the solution of this problem", – Bulander says. Already today the division of Bosch specializing in solutions for electrobikes is a market leader on production of drives for the type of the electric transport, most popular in the world. Today on roads of China more than 200 million electroscooters move, and power units of Bosch also play an important role here. For two - three - and four-wheel electric Bosch vehicles developed the compact electric drive which can be used as in two-wheeled transport, for example in E-Schwalbe, and in light electric vehicles, such as e.Go. Moreover, today in the large cities the electric transport is more and more actively used in the delivery services. Here the German company DHL where for delivery the Streetscooter models constructed based on power units of Bosch are used acts as the pioneer. In addition to development of electromobility in all classes and segments of transport, the company also continues works on improvement of characteristics of internal combustion engines. Bosch puts about a half of the budget in Research and Development, in the initiatives sent to advantage of environment protection and preserving of resources. In total it is about the amount approximately of 3.5 billion euros.
Full range of solutions for the smart cities
Bosch participates in implementation of 14 pilot projects of the smart cities. Among them – projects in Singapore, San Francisco, Berlin and Hamburg. Seven projects mean use of solutions for the organization of city transport. In addition to the parkings connected to the Internet and management systems for vehicle fleet, these solutions also include electric vehicles and multimodal transport. Among the newest examples there are cooperation in this area – the project performed by Bosch in China, the city of Tianjin. The stated purpose of cooperation is in turning the seaport into the smart city.
Dynamics of growth three times advances market
The business direction of the Solution for mobility numbering 227,000 employees worldwide recorded in 2016 income in the amount of 43.9 billion euros. This year the division of the Solution for mobility of the Bosch Group expects to show growth by 7%. It almost three times exceeds growth of global automotive industry. By the end of 2017 this sector will total about 48,000 research associates that is about 4,000 people more, than was at the beginning of a year.
