Article is devoted to "CoBrain-Analitike" – the NTI project which contractor is the Skolkovo institute of science and technologies (Skoltech). The project provides creation of the platform for collecting, storages, processing and the analysis of biomedical these different types and formats and also development and use of applications of support of adoption of medical solutions using models and algorithms of artificial intelligence.

Content

Structure of a system

The CoBrain-Analitika platform consists of three products: CoLab, 2nd opinion and MedEducation.

The first, CoLab, represents the uniform working space integrating people of different competences for work with data and algorithms for the purpose of the solution of any scientific or commercial problem. Data can be loaded into CoLab directly. They are reliably protected and are stored in Russia. At the same time all information which is contained in biomedical data of CoLab is depersonalized. Even moreover – in need of it it is possible to depersonalize in it by means of the corresponding algorithms and tools. The main option CoLab is creating applications of the help of adoption of medical solutions. Besides, on the basis of its information the doctor, in particular, can write summaries. Also the product allows to make selection, necessary for this or that hypothesis.

The second product of the CoBrain-Analitika system – 2nd opinion. It represents the platform with ready applications of the help of adoption of medical solutions. On it applications both for the wide consumer, and for medical community are submitted. The user can load into them the data and receive the alternative opinion based on result of a program runtime using algorithms of artificial intelligence, but not doctors. For this purpose it is absolutely optional to it to have special knowledge, to fulfill certain requirements and to make unloading of algorithms. However the doctor has no right to make the diagnosis on the basis of hints of the applications placed on 2nd by opinion.

As of May 25, 2020 2nd opinion still is at a completion stage. The last technical problems are solved and necessary documentation is developed. In open access 2nd opinion will appear in the first half of 2021.

The third product, MedEducation, represents an educational part of the platform. It includes an open lecture hall on which anyone can listen to lectures about use of modern technologies in to medicine, and undressed with the specialized rates for health workers allowing to master basic skills of programming, to work with Big Data and algorithms of artificial intelligence. Possibly, in the future these rates will be able to be integrated into the program continuous medicaleducations, accredited Ministry of Health. Besides, MedEducation will allow to hold online conferences and consultations already soon.

Financing of the project

The total amount of investments of the project is 487 million rubles. As of May 25, 2020 these means are not completely spent. The project has no needs for additional financing yet.

History

2020: In Skolkovo for 500 million rubles developed an AI system for doctors. Its demand is obvious not to all

Four years later after the beginning of development of the CoBrain-Analitika platform for which the investment volume into 487 million rubles is provided perspectives of its commercialization remain not clear. The platform is intended for health sector: research laboratories and medical clinics. As of 2020 the main part of development is complete, the platform is available to potential clients to testing on a free basis, and further is going to monetize it. However so far it is unlikely that it is strongly interesting to potential customers.

The Igal Zuk project manager whom TAdviser at the end of May addressed, told that in March-April the interest of medical clinics in the platform increased, but did not provide TAdviser to any specific information on that how many organizations showed to it interest.

At the beginning of March it provided to the edition data according to which in 2016-2019 the Skolkovo institute of science and technologies was entered by about 600 requests from "legal entities and physical persons" on the questions connected with a system. Most of all users with what data the platform, its algorithms and also joint surveys can work interested. At the beginning of June, 2020 Igal Zuk provided TAdviser already other data. According to him, for all the time of existence of the project - 2016-2020, about 2000 requests came to Skoltech. Thus, in six months 2020, judging by data of the project manager, the amount of requests sharply increased, having increased by 1400 requests.

It is connected with several reasons. The first - updating of design and functionality both the project website, and a show-window of applications 2nd opinion. The second - emergence in the platform of new algorithms and data sets, such as, for example, "Localization of speech zones of a brain on rest FMRT", "Predobrabotka and cleaning of FMRT of rest", "Quality control of EEG", - Igal Zuk explained TAdviser.

He also noticed that a request in Skoltech consider, according to requirements of the customer, only the addressing the platform proceeding from legal entity with which at the organization the relevant agreement is signed.

About 500 legal entities are registered on the platform, according to him, as of June 5.

Among the registered users of the platform there are scientific and medical centers of Moscow - the centers of Burdenko, Vishnevsky, Ryzhikh, Kulakov, Solovyov, Pirogov, scientific center of neurology. Also in a system the Russian developers of the medical systems on the basis of AI who are already placing the ready-made solutions on a show-window of applications of the platform - Care Mentor AI, Ftizisbiomed, the Third opinion are registered. Besides, among the registered users of a system there are young teams of developers and startups. For example - Z-union, EyeMoove, Biodidzhital, Biogen, Kleiber bionis, Sensorylab, MDink, Unim.

After completion of creation of "CoBrain-Analitiki", according to Igal Zuk, all actions around the platform will be connected with its commercialization.

The CoBrain-Analitika platforms of 487 million rubles selected for creation, according to him, are still not completely spent. However how many it is already spent for creation of TAdviser Igal Zuk system did not specify.

TAdviser polled a number of medical clinics concerning their interest in the CoBrain-Analitika platform. As it became clear, it frightens off someone difficulties of implementation and use, lack of enough examples of successful application and some other factors.

The first factor is connected with the fact that, as a rule, all algorithms of artificial intelligence, similar to those that are used in "CoBrain-Analitika", are under construction on enough "dirty" data - i.e. low quality. As a result, there is a question: on what data already existing applications of "CoBrain-Analitika" and on what new can be constructed are created? Other moment – as in most cases these solutions will be integrated in infrastructure of medical clinics? The most part from them has no information systems with function necessary for this purpose, - the chief executive of BestDoctor Mikhail Belyandinov explains TAdviser.

At the same time he noted that clinics are more interested in the products helping to analyze, this or that decision, than in the developments helping to accept it was how correctly made by the doctor.

At the same time, he considers, private clinics in Russia in general are still technically not really ready to use of progressive IT developments. The most modern information systems use only some state clinics.

According to the founder and the managing partner of the GMS group specializing in various medical services, Igor Krasnolutsky to say about the real interest from outside of both private, and state medical clinics to the platform so far very much early that to their managers, very ordinary, practical and rationally conceiving, demonstration of real benefit of this or that product is necessary for people.

However, according to him, all options "CoBrain-Analitiki" attract interest of GMS. But to estimate what applications of the platform are most interesting to the organization on the basis of information provided on the project website which is insufficiently complete, it is difficult for it.

In Medsi medical clinic of TAdviser said that actively develop own analytical direction and are open for cooperation with startups which propose interesting solutions in the field of the analysis of medical data. At the same time in clinic noted that use not only such product of the CoBrain-Analitika platform can cause difficulties in the medical organizations as 2nd opinion are platforms with ready applications of the help of adoption of medical solutions, but also CoLab - a working space of the platform for creation of such tools.

At implementation of new technical solutions from a marketplace of "CoBrain-Analitika" 2nd opinion the most different difficulties can face. Among them – an issue of training of medical personnel in work with the platform, security of medical data and issues of integration into the medical information systems accepted in clinic. With participation in development of new solutions in CoLab there is a question of protection of intellectual property and also of an opportunity if necessary to bring the developments out of a platform circuit, - believe in Medsi.

At the same time, in clinic consider that 2nd opinion is the most interesting option of the CoBrain-Analitika platform. The product as note in Medsi, will allow to compare the outputs received using different technological solutions, to improve algorithms of data processing and, eventually, to improve quality of medical care. At the same time, are sure of clinic that the CoBrain-Analitika platform will be in demand only when the price of its use is acceptable.

There is no rather possible cost of use of the platform still any clarity. According to Igal Zuk, one of perspective options of monetization of the project is payment by the user of a certain number of applications launches of the platform. The second option – a subscription to a paid part of functionality of a system.

We cannot sound the amount of payment in the first and second cases for clinics and the companies yet, for the ordinary citizen it will be comparable to the cost of solutions of foreign analogs. I will note that so far use of services of the project for partners is free, - Igal Zuk told TAdviser.

As the main partners of "CoBrain-Analitiki", according to him, the medical organizations from Moscow and St. Petersburg act. They provide data for one of system products - CoLab. Initially a number of partners provided to the project data on a commercial basis, but now all organizations provide it information non-paid. At the end of May TAdviser addressed the medical partner centers of the project for comments about interest in the platform, but any information on the system of a tna to the edition did not provide. However two weeks later their comments TAdviser was provided by the staff of CoBrain-Analitika laboratory.

One of partners of the project is the center of neurosurgery of a name of the academician N.N. Burdenko. Together with specialists of CoBrain-Analitika laboratory in clinic the new technology of preoperative noninvasive mapping using data of functional MRT of rest based on synergy of the latest technologies of MR-diagnostics and artificial intelligence technologies, allowing to localize functional zones of a brain on MRT pictures with an accuracy, sufficient for carrying out neurosurgical transactions, develops.

The technology is used in neuroradiological and clinical departments of the Center of Burdenko for planning of surgical interventions at intracerebral tumors, comparison of new technology with standard methods of MRT-mapping is carried out. Further implementation of new technology in mass clinical practice is supposed, - the manager of neurosurgical department of the Center of Burdenko David Pitskhelauri told.

Also the center of Vishnevsky, the center of Kulakov, the center of Solovyov and the center of Ryzhikh act as partners of the project.

For the last in 2020 the first version of the solution on determination of the metastaticheski of the changed lymph nodes of a small pelvis at patients with cancer of a rectum will be received. Development will be based on the created data set from depersonalized medical data and mathematical models developed jointly with specialists of Cobrain-Analytics laboratory.

Connection to the analysis of medical images of artificial intelligence shows the increasing efficiency around the world. Creation of the trained models of artificial intelligence which will allow to identify the metastaticheski the changed regionarny lymph nodes according to MRT of images at patients with cancer of a rectum will help radiologists more precisely and in shorter terms to stadirovat a tumor according to the TNM system that has basic value for the choice of the program of treatment of this category of patients, - the head of department of radiodiagnosis of NMITs of coloproctology of A.N. For the center of Kulakov and the center of Solovyov application development, the mental diseases helping with diagnostics, in particular a depression, schizophrenia and epilepsy already comes to an end.

Except the medical organizations, according to Igal Zuk, partners of the project various business structures act. These are, in particular, equipment manufacturers and developers of algorithms on the basis of artificial intelligence. For example, such large companies as "Third opinion", Enigma, Brainlab. Participation in the project is important for them in terms of data exchange and a possibility of positioning on platform 2nd opinion.

Also absolutely young companies – only just entering Neyronet, startups and those who else register the legal entity cooperate with the project. The project can be useful to them, in particular, as a possibility of data storage, use of computing powers and conducting joint experiments.

In general creation of the CoBrain-Analitiki system as single platform for development and testing of new medical services on the basis of artificial intelligence – a logical stage of development of a health care system which will allow the medical organizations to begin to process that data array which they already have, is declared in Medsi.

Especially valuably the fact that the similar ecosystem will allow to use the latest technologies that, who has no own staff of developers. The special system of accounting of biological materials of the person by means of artificial intelligence will be started in 2021. It will represent service based on AI for improvement of diagnosis of socially important diseases that will allow to optimize their therapy and also to make it more personified. The patient will pass preliminary tests and will hand over biomaterial, and then will receive personal treatment. Possibilities of artificial intelligence will be used also for development of medicines, - the interlocutor of the agency told[1].

Representatives of "CoBrain-Analitiki" noted that the artificial intelligence will study, in particular, the samples of fabrics, blood and urine received from patients with different serious diseases, such as hereditary oncological syndromes, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer and also serious neurodegenerative illness. These data will be compared with clinical data from different medical institutions and biobanks of the Russian Federation. Then personal treatment will be offered the patient.

For start of a system specialists of "CoBrain-Analitika" signed the agreement with National Bioservice company. Both organizations execute projects within road maps of HealthNet and NeuroNet of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) - state programs of support of the perspective directions of technology business in Russia.

Solutions for radiologists of Care Mentor AI on a show-window of CoBrain

On October 22, 2019 the Skolkovo institute of science and technologies announced (Skoltech) that, according to the signed agreement, on a show-window of the CoBrain platform the solutions of a system of artificial intelligence for the analysis and interpretation of results of beam methods of the research Care Mentor AI analyzing roentgenographies of bodies of a thorax, cervical department of a backbone, foot and knee joints are presented.

The partner of the CoBrain-Analitika project released Care Mentor AI a number of products based on artificial intelligence technologies which analyze beam diagnostic images and define existence of symptoms of pathologies on them, including socially important diseases, drawing to it close attention of the doctor. Solutions of the company are already started in a number of domestic clinics.

According to the CoBrain-Analitika project manager Igal Zuk, one of problems of the platform – creation of a show-window where the applications of support of adoptions of medical solutions on the basis of artificial intelligence created by CoBrain-Analitiki developers and partners of the project will be placed. Single platform and query system for biobanks

Biobank of the Sechenovsky university jointly with the Skolkovo institute of science and technologies (Skoltech) started development of a single platform and query system for biobanks regarding providing information on the available samples within the Co-Brain-Analitika project. Reported about it in Skoltech on October 14, 2019.

The uniqueness of biobank consists available huge clinical base of the university: over 65 thousand patients, more than 25 thousand transactions annually. Also it is done unique by capacities of the scientific and technology park of biomedicine.

In the long term the biobank together with biobanks of other scientific and clinical organizations is going to create unified information environment for scientists for the purpose of receiving by them access to collections of biological samples and carrying out researches at national and international level.

The purpose of providing access to biomedical data is creation of solutions in the field of support systems of adoption of medical solutions based on algorithms of machine learning.

Program of acceleration of the technology projects "AI & BIGDATA in medicine"

Skolkovo institute of science and technologies (Skoltech) together with the company Philips start the program of acceleration of technology projects "AI & BIGDATA in to medicine". Reported about it in Skoltech on February 11, 2019.

The program purpose – search and development of the projects capable to create commercial products in key segments of the NeuroNet market of NTI on the basis of own practices and also on the basis of results of researches of the center of a neurobiology and neurorehabilitation of Skoltech and data and algorithms placed on the Co-Brain-Analitika platform on subjects:

  • early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases;
  • systems of early predictive diagnostics and monitoring;
  • development of technical means of rehabilitation using neurotechnologies;
  • forecasting of mass and individual behavioural effects on the basis of neuro and biometric data;
  • development of neurointerfaces and VR and AR technologies in training.

Acceleration modules and hackathons will pass during the period from February to May, 2019 in Moscow, Tomsk and Novosibirsk. The best teams of each region will defend the projects before experts on Startup Village at the end of May, 2019 in Skolkovo.

Each module will include four-day intensiv with experts of the program and also month of the correspondence work under the leadership of experienced mentors.

During the program professors of the center of a neurobiology and neurorehabilitation of Skoltech, the innovation laboratory Philips, competence center of wireless communication and Internet of Things of NTI, representatives of the member companies of the industry union of NeuroNet and also experts from higher education institutions and the partner companies will work with participants.

Winners of hackathons and the program of acceleration will separate a monetary prize from the partner of the program – Philips companies, will have an opportunity to become residents Skolkovo, to pass a training in laboratories of Skoltech, to pass into the international programs of acceleration and to continue the development within the international community.

2018

Change by the project of the customer

In December, 2018 to year at the CoBrain-Analitika project the customer was replaced. Its role instead of NeuroNet was undertaken by Skolkovo Foundation. TAdviser the Igal Zuk project manager reported about it.

As a result of change of the customer the platform replaced the focus, having become more ground on medicine, but not processing of neurodata. Besides, more wide range of users became her consumer. Not only scientists, but also physicians and representatives of business – the employees of young startups beginning Data Scientist, specialists of clinics, ordinary users became them. At the same time the decision on considerable completion of a system was made.

Change of the project orderer, according to Igal Zuk, was caused by need of expansion of a system for its application in medicine - the need for competences "Skolkovo".

After the fund became the customer of the platform, all actions over it purchased kind of work over a product. From it began to do something more large-scale, than just a system for creation of algorithms - the platform of any services allowing to automate further it and to monetize, - Igal Zuk told TAdviser.

Access to data sets

The CoBrain-Analitika platform opened access to the structured data sets – to data sets. Reported about it at the Skolkovo institute of science and technologies (Skoltech) on November 27, 2018.

To get access to the directory of data sets "CoBrain-Analitiki", the user it is necessary to be registered on the app.cobrain platform and to undergo the short procedure of verification. After that it can begin to work not only with open data sets, but also other available tools of the platform.

As of November 27, 2018, on the platform not only the data sets received from partners of Skoltech, but also placed by other users are placed. For example, a data set from Biodidzhital company which comprises EMG-data with classification of gestures of a hand and the description.

We develop the human-computer interface based on registration of electromyographic activity and recognition of gestures of hands. The interface should form a basis for a management system for a bionic prosthesis – rather difficult solution which requires a large number of data for training of the qualifier. We assume that our data sets will be useful to other researchers and also will help to solve this ambitious problem jointly, – the representative of Biodidzhital company Bulat Aytbayev reported.

The Biodidzhital company" became the first company the data set which placed in open access on the CoBrain-Analitika platform. We hope that our platform will help the young companies and specialists of data science with achievement of their purposes, simplifying search and work with data, - the deputy manager of the CoBrain-Analitika project Sandra Bit Varda noted.

The release of functionality of the platform occurs gradually as a feedback from users is very valuable to us and we are aimed to release a qualitative and demanded product. Our main task - to create full-fledged working online space and a workshop for work with data and algorithms of their processing and the analysis where each of users - whether it be data scientist, the doctor or a technology startup - will be able to find necessary tools for work with the valuable data, - the CoBrain-Analitika project manager Dmitry Matsnev told.

In addition to the directory of data sets which shortly evolves in the full version of a marketplace the following services will also be available to users of the platform:

  • marketplace of algorithms and applications;
  • collection of data on a request;
  • organization of joint activity / creation of joint projects;
  • high-performance computing;
  • data storage;
  • marking of data.

Creation of the main functionality

By November, 2018 the Skolkovo institute of science and technologies (Skoltech) developed the main functionality of the CoBrain-Analitika platform and its basic elements – a core and subsystems. TAdviser the Igal Zuk project manager reported about it.

For example, query systems, data storage, their processings, loadings and unloadings were developed. Thus, the platform was already the working tool. It was possible to load into it, in particular, an algorithm and to give it data for processing. At the same time a system was carefully tested by partners and the project orderer in the course of creation. It passed each half a year through the corresponding tests, - Igal Zuk told TAdviser.

It was initially planned that "CoBrain-Analitika" until the end of 2018 will be provided to the Government of the Russian Federation and, in case of approval, in the fall of 2018 it will be offered state and[2].

Skoltech and Federal State Budgetary Institution NMITs PM will cooperate on the project

Skolkovo institute of science and technologies (Skoltech) together with federal state budgetary Institution "National medical research center of preventive medicine" Ministry of Health Russia (Federal State Budgetary Institution NMITs TPM) is integrated by NMITs TPM into the system of collecting of the depersonalized data within the medical CoBrain-Analitika project. Partners signed the corresponding double-sided memorandum in March, 2018 century To Moscow.

Signatures under the document were delivered by the rector of ANO of the higher education "The Skolkovo institute of science and technologies" Alexander Kuleshov and the director of Federal State Budgetary Institution NMITs TPM Oksana Drapkina.

Federal State Budgetary Institution NMITs TPM solves relevant problems of preservation and promotion of health of Russians, decrease in incidence and the main chronic noninfectious diseases mortality, actively participates in the large Russian and international researches devoted to studying of chronic noninfectious diseases and questions of their prevention interacts with colleagues from regions on these questions. Besides, in the center such directions as the personalized medicine and telemedicine develop.

Bilateral cooperation will allow to increase quickly and effectively base of medical project information "CoBrain-Analitika", and NMITS TPM to get access to a modern system of the centralized storage of medical data that will allow research associates and doctors of Federal State Budgetary Institution NMITs TPM to address in real time extensive base of clinical and paraclinical information and to carry out its analysis.

2016: Start of development of the system of "CoBrain-Analitika"

In 2016 within NTI the Skolkovo institute of science and technologies (Skoltech) started project implementation "Development of an information and analytical system on processing of big neurodata for support of implementation of Neyronet technologies of "CoBrain-Analitika".

Project objective - creation of the biomedical platform for collecting, storages, the analysis and processing of Big biomedical Data about a brain of the person in different statuses and in different modalities.

The main difference of the project from other platforms storing neurodata consists in multimodal approach and combination of different data types on the same subject of a research (patient).
