2025: Remote Control Version Announcement
On February 12, 2025, the state corporation Rostec announced that the Kornet anti-tank missile system (ATGM) received a remote control. This allows the military to fire from cover tens of meters from the installation.
The lead developer and manufacturer of the Kornet ATGM is the Design Bureau of Instrument Engineering named after Academician A.G. Shipunov holding "High-precision complexes" (part of Rostec). The universal gun allows you to fire from the ground and from armored vehicles. The accuracy of the firing of the complex, which is in service with the Russian army, is provided by sights-guidance devices 1P45-1 TsNIItochmash.
According to Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the Rostec arms, ammunition and special chemistry cluster, the remote control for the Kornet ATGM is made at the domestic component base. The solution is said to meet high standards of reliability and ergonomics. The remote provides additional protection for combat crews during missions, as the military can be sheltered away from the launcher.
In parallel, all Cornet options continue to improve. For example, in guidance methods. The accuracy of the missile today is excellent - it easily flies into the embrasure of the enemy's firing point. We get positive reviews from the military, "says Ozdoev. |
It is noted that the latest versions of the Kornet ATGM launchers implement the "shot and forget" concept. The system allows you to minimize human participation in the process: the operator only needs to select the target, sketch the sighting mark of the target tracking machine and launch the missile. Further, the system independently monitors the operation of the drives of the automated launcher, directs the missile and controls the ammunition until it hits.[1]
2023: Anti-tank missile system begins
For the first time, the Russian military used the Kornet anti-tank missile system with remote control. The corresponding video was published by RIA Novosti on July 13, 2023.
According to the agency, the personnel captures the guidance with the help of the aiming means of the complex on the dugout of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on one of the terricons, the launch of a guided missile and control of destruction. At the same time, the guidance and launch of the rocket was carried out from the remote remote control.
The complex is a remote control in a shock-resistant container with controls and a display, which displays a picture with an ATGM sight. The developers say that the main task of their invention is to preserve the life of the Russian military from enemy retaliatory fire. During the launch of the missile, the launch site is revealed to the enemy, and he can return fire. With the remote control, soldiers will be able to be in a safer position - at a distance of up to 50 m from the launcher.
The first anti-tank missile system "Kornet" using the remote control complex "Kurgan" used the special forces of the Russian group "South." A similar remote control system is used by the developers of the Ukrainian anti-tank missile system "Stugna-P," the agency noted.
The Kornet anti-tank complex with guided missiles is used to strike tanks and other armored targets. Its firing range is up to 5.5 thousand meters during the day and up to 3.5 thousand meters at night. As noted by Argumenty i Fakty on July 13, 2023, the Kornet ATGM, which has been producing the Degtyarev Plant in Kovrov since 1989, has produced more than 35,000 units. This anti-tank complex is well known not only in the Russian army, but also in the armed forces of 13 countries.[2]
