2022: Submarine disposal
July 20, 2022 it became known about the withdrawal of the nuclear submarine "Dmitry Donskoy" (project 941 UM "Shark") from the combat composition of the Russian fleet. The vessel will be disposed of, RIA Novosti reports, citing a source in the military-industrial complex. According to the interlocutor, the name "Dmitry Donskoy" was assigned to another strategic nuclear submarine of the Borey-A class (project 955A), which was laid down at Sevmash in 2021.
By July 2022, Dmitry Donskoy remains the largest submarine in the world by displacement - 48 thousand tons. For this vessel, as well as for the rest of the ships of the project TK-208 two "combat" crews and a technical crew were formed, in addition, technical crews who were not assigned to a specific ship worked on it.[1]
2017
In the summer of 2017, Dmitry Donskoy with a number of other ships made the transition from the Northern to the Baltic Fleet. The campaign is timed to coincide with the International Naval Salon (MVMS-2017) and the celebration of Navy Day. To participate in the main naval parade at the Kronstadt raid in 2017, for the first time in the history of the domestic Navy, the cruiser made a surface crossing from the Kola Bay to the Gulf of Finland through the straits of the Baltic Sea and back.
2013
The Ministry of Defense previously planned to keep Dmitry Donskoy in service for weapons tests until 2017, a RBC source in the department said in May 2013. Later, however, the framework was shifted, in 2016 the service life was extended until "at least 2020," an unnamed TASS interlocutor reported.
2002
In 2002, Dmitry Donskoy was modernized and rearmed with Bulava to test this missile before being adopted.
1980
The nuclear submarine Dmitry Donskoy became part of the Navy in 1980 and was the lead boat of project 941 - a total of six submarines of this project were built.
