2019: Withdrawal from sale
At the beginning of December, 2019 3M Deutschland issued the express notice about security to warn health workers about the problems arising when using an advanced surgical plaster of Durapore. 3M it was forced to contract sales of a plaster as that badly keeps moisture and begins to break up to separate fibers.
The hypoallergenic plaster of Durapore was used for fixing of bandages and also different tubes and devices during transaction. As extent of attachment was regulated by force of pressing of a plaster, and it did not stick to gloves and came off in the cross and longitudinal directions without use of scissors, the plaster of Durapore was considered as one of the best solutions for operational and surgical departments. It could be used for fixing of large bandages and also for reliable fixing of devices which shift during transaction was inadmissible.
The company stated in the notification that the plaster of Durapore corresponds to all safe criterions and efficiency. Nevertheless, long impact of moisture on Durapore plaster in the conditions of continuous clinical application resulted in results, unexpected for the producer.
Company 3M reported, under the influence of moisture the plaster ceases to be fixed as it was supposed. Besides, excess moisture can become a cause of wear of fibers of a plaster, and it, in turn, can lead to their accidental ingestion or aspiration. As a result because of the revealed problems company 3M stopped sale of a plaster of Durapore and urged clients to stop use of a product and also to inform the patients. The company stated that it already notified the relevant regulatory organs on a problem.[1]
