2025: Product Announcement

In April 2025, Nio introduced a new Firefly brand, under which it will sell electric vehicles with a revolutionary battery change system. Hatchback, positioned as a competitor to the Mini and Smart, began selling in the Chinese market.

According to The Driven, the new electric car received a subcompact body with unique technical characteristics. The base cost of the hatchback is ¥119 800 (₽1,33 million), which is significantly lower than competitors. The second package is estimated at ¥125 800 (₽1,39 million).

Nio CTO Jiang Zhou noted that the hatchback was designed by American designer Chris Thomasson, who previously worked for BMW and Ford. The car is equipped with a 105 kW (143 hp) electric motor with a maximum torque of 200 Nm.

The Firefly electric car is equipped with a 42.1 kVt·ch battery and is capable of overcoming up to 420 km on a single charge in the Chinese CLTC cycle. It is possible to rent a battery according to a subscription model, as well as a network of terminals has been deployed that allow you to quickly replace batteries.

Firefly brand development director Lee Meng said the company plans to enter the European market in the coming months. Sales will be carried out through the Nio dealer network, from August 2025, buyers will be able to purchase a car without a battery and use the battery subscription system.

The basic hatchback package includes nine airbags, electronic driver assistance systems, climate control, a panoramic roof and a multimedia system with a 13.2-inch screen. The interior features 14 speakers and 50W wireless charging.

The car has compact dimensions - length 4003 mm, width 1781 mm and height 1557 mm. The trunk volume is 335 liters with the possibility of increasing to 1253 liters with the rear seats folded. Additionally, a 92 liter front trunk is provided[1]
