2019: The rejected thermometers show the wrong temperature

In the middle of November, 2019 the Cardinal Health company issued the express notice about security to announce clients defect of calibration of Genius 2 and Genius 3 thermometers. It turned out that because of a manufacturing defect these devices show the wrong temperature.

The company reported in the notification that the defect was revealed at all ear Genius 2 thermometers manufactured after October 1, 2016 and also at all ear Genius 3 thermometers manufactured after December 4, 2017. Because of defects Genius 2 thermometers were laid completely off.

It agrees to the data provided by the company, calibration of Genius thermometers cannot guarantee that thermometers will remain within the stated accuracy range throughout the entire period of operation. For Genius 2 thermometers acceptable deviation makes ± 0.2 °C, and for Genius 3 thermometers ± 0.3 °C.

During check Cardinal Health revealed that indications of thermometers grow over time, and it means that devices can exceed the limit of tolerance range. Similar deviations from exact values can lead to the wrong diagnostics or a delay of treatment. Cardinal Health added that the probability of damnification is low, and so far the company did not receive messages about serious injuries or harming patients. The management of Cardinal Health noted that the company already updates the operation manual to change rules of calibration of thermometers.

The Cardinal Health company suggested users of Genius thermometers to check stock for existence of defective devices and to repeatedly calibrate them. After calibration users are recommended to contact Cardinal Health to plan a device software update.[1]
