2022: The start of the supply of smart targets for testing new small arms

In August 2022, Kalashnikov began supplying smart targets for testing new small arms. The system called "Indicator" was developed by the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (TsNIItochmash), which is part of the concern.

The operation of the complex is based on the principle of acoustic location. The sensors pick up the shock wave formed by the bullet when flying through the target contour, and the computer determines the exact location of the hit.

The intelligent rifle target allows you to quickly and with high reliability determine the accuracy and accuracy of firing due to the acoustic sensors and computer included in its body. The sensors detect the shock wave that the bullet forms when flying through the target contour, and the computer operating on the basis of the principle of acoustic location determines the exact place of hit. As a result, the firing of the target from ricochet bullets or clumps of the earth is excluded. At the same time, the subjective factor completely leaves the process of collecting and processing the obtained results. The system is designed to test new models of small arms and sniper systems.

According to TASS, citing the press service of TsNIItochmash, the institute received orders for the acoustic target it developed. In particular, the target complex was delivered by Molot-Weapon JSC. By August 23, 2022, work is also underway to organize the supply of the complex of OJSC V.A. Degtyarev Plant.

According to the developers, the characteristics of the complex are comparable in level to modern counterparts from Switzerland and the UK. The target is manufactured in two modifications "Indicator-1" and "Indicator-2." They differ in the shape of the acoustic target body and the location of acoustic sensors on the body.[1]
