2021: Hydrogen Bus Announcement

In mid-December 2021, KamAZ announced the timing of the release of its hydrogen bus. According to the head of the company, Sergei Kogotin, Mosgortrans will put this vehicle into operation in the second half of 2022. He added that "there is no rush," since it is necessary to test the technology.

The chassis and body of the hydrogen electric bus are assembled at a subsidiary of the company in Bashkiria - NEFAZ, roof equipment was installed at the KamAZ Scientific and Technical Center. The body is made of high-strength steels and safe plastic, which provides the necessary strength and safety in emergency situations. The total mass of the KamAZ-6282 hydrogen electric bus is 19 tons, its overall dimensions are 12.4x2.55x3.4 m.

The novelty runs on hydrogen fuel cells and is equipped with six cylinders for storing compressed hydrogen. For safety reasons, cylinders are installed on the roof - in the event of a leak, hydrogen will go up, and not into the cabin.

The power of the hydrogen power plant is at least 45 kW, the hydrogen is driven by an electric port bridge from ZF. The hydrogen electric bus is equipped with a modern high-performance pneumatic braking system with EBS, ABS, ASR, EPB, a slope retention function, an open door motion blocking function and a brake pad wear control sensor. Braking by a traction motor with a recovery system is also provided.

The maximum speed is 80 km/h, the range is 250 km. Total passenger capacity - 80 people, seats - 33. Like the electric bus, the new ecotransport is adapted for operation at an ambient temperature of -40 ° to + 40 ° C.

By the end of 2021, there is a hydrogen refueling station only in Chernogolovka near Moscow, so testing a hydrogen electric bus elsewhere is impossible, KamAZ notes[1]
