2025: Product Announcement
Scientists from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have released the first Russian seismic software on the shelf - an expert modeling system for a group of acoustic signal sources. The program is able to completely replace Western counterparts and become a key component of the software family used for marine seismic exploration. Representatives of MIPT reported this at the end of May 2025.
According to CNews, the Russian shelf has the largest area in the world - over 6 million square meters. km, and its resource potential is difficult to overestimate. Based on geopolitical realities, interest in these wealth will continue to grow in the coming years. Traditionally used for seismic surveys, British and Norwegian specialized software is not available in Russia.
Since its inception in the middle of the last century, seismic exploration has been the main tool for finding hydrocarbon deposits. To perform seismic surveys on the shelf, research vessels are used that tow equipment: seismic sources and receiving devices.
The program developed at MIPT allows you to determine the parameters of a group source with high accuracy using computer modeling and artificial intelligence. It will save the seismic expedition from the costs of vessel downtime, the water area of work - from dangerous impacts on flora and fauna, save companies significant funds.
An incorrect selection of source characteristics can lead to an inaccurate solution to the geological problem, which will require additional expeditions for seismic exploration. The cost of such an error is estimated at ₽0,5 -4 billion. It also leads to irretrievable time losses, which is especially painful with the seasonal possibility of work[1]
