2024: Smart Insole Presentation

MIPT In created a smart insole for diagnosing gait disorders. The university announced this on September 24, 2024.

The proposed SMART solution allows you to analyze the dynamics of pressure distribution across the foot and select corrective insoles. It will take about 20 minutes to collect information about individual gait parameters.

The basic prototype of the SMART device has 64 sensors, which are located on the insole. From it, over a flexible loop, signals (the primary array data about the patient's movement parameters) are recorded on a special module attached to. footwear After that bluetooth information , it is transmitted to the computer doctor. According to MIPT analyst Georgy Mashkov, the use of smart racks will make it possible to simplify the procedure for diagnosing orthopedic pathologies (gait disorders) as much as possible.

The device provides a deep understanding of how load distribution on the foot occurs in dynamics. For example, if weight and pressure are distributed unevenly, then this can lead to damage to the ligaments or provoke joint abrasion. The situation can be corrected by selecting orthopedic steles or shoes. Previously, the doctor did this in many ways "by eye," sometimes to complete the task I had to buy several sets of orthopedic stacks of long-term wear, because it was not possible to pick it up exactly the first time, "continued Georgy Mashkov.

Employees of the MIPT laboratory conducted a series of in-depth interviews with orthopedic doctors. Thanks to this, it was possible to determine key indicators that indicate the presence of gait pathologies in humans. After that, using algorithmachine learning, the researchers managed to create digital models for compensation for gait disorders. At the same time, the doctor takes about 20 minutes to diagnose orthopedic disorders and select special steles.

At first, the patient simply walks with a smart insole, then the doctor, based on the data obtained, selects orthopedic insoles for him to wear for a long time. Their main task is to redistribute the load and adjust the functions of the foot and ankle joint. Therefore, it is so important that they are selected taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient's musculoskeletal system. New insoles are inserted into shoes again with our device. After that, the doctor re-analyzes the "situation in the boot" and draws conclusions about whether the orthopedic tab was able to change the dynamics of the gait, "continued Georgy Mashkov.

The project was supported by a large federal company. The device has already been tested on the basis of one of the orthopedic salons of the network.

By the end of 2024, the development team plans to enter small-scale production of SMART-stealth for shoes.
