2021: Product Announcement

In early November 2021, Microsoft introduced software  for collaboration and meetings in mixed reality. It is called Mesh for Teams  and is based on the Microsoft Mesh solution, announced in March 2021. As can be understood from the name Mesh for Teams, the product is integrated with the Microsoft Teams collaboration platform.

The novelty allows you  to work in a shared virtual environment with a presence effect, while maintaining the ability to chat, share documents and connect other necessary Teams tools.

Microsoft Introduced Virtual Reality Collaboration Software

In Mesh for Teams, users can create their own digital avatar and use it during meetings in a virtual environment. Other participants at their own discretion can also be represented by avatars, be present on the video, and also use a static picture or just a field with a name. In addition to organizing virtual meetings with avatars, companies will also be able to create their own immersive spaces - metaverse. As a result, the solution will allow people even from different points of the world to be in the same environment and interact with each other, while providing all participants with psychological comfort and a sense of cohesion.

Mesh for Teams will be supported by a wide range of devices - from smartphones and PCs to mixed reality helmets. It will work in two Teams modes. Together Mode allows you to create a single virtual space for meeting participants, such as a conference room, where the visual boundaries between participants are erased. Another mode, Presenter View, allows one participant to conduct presentations for others in real time, showing the host a sequence of slides and notes.

Users are expected to have access to Mesh for Teams starting in the first half of 2022.[1]
