2019: Start of service

At the end of March, 2019 the Management of information systems of the U.S. Department of Defense (   Defense Information Systems Agency, DISA) relating to the Pentagon started a cloud service of milDrive. It is addressed to military and allows them to store and share data among themselves where they were.

milDrive allows users to store all the files in a cloud. It really guarantees that military will have a continuous, reliable access to files irrespective of the device or location — the managing director of the program of cloud data storage of DISA Carissa Landymore says.

According to her, service was started with "a thought of security, flexibility and reliability". Data are stored in two data centers which supplement each other for ensuring stable work.

Connection to milDrive is performed through government network Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) using so-called cards of the general access (Common Access Card). For loading of files it is possible to use mobile applications for iOS and Android and also the web browser or the client for computers.

Two levels of data storage which differ in the maximum volume are offered: for one user well to 20 Gbytes of space in a cloud, and for groups — 1 Tbyte.

Developers provided several functions which can be met in public cloud storages. It is, for example, file synchronization after Internet access return, data recovery and an opportunity to share information with any users who are not registered in milDrive.

As notes the ZDNet edition, the milDrive service is constructed based on other DISA project — milCloud. It represents the cloud storage for combatant forces, the staff of civil departments and contractors.[1]
