2025: Launch of Mass Production
At the end of September 2025, it became known that Russia was the first in the world to begin mass production of laser air defense systems (air defense). We are talking about a system called "Peresvet," the head developer of which is the All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics.
According to the Izvestia newspaper, the complex is not intended for the destruction of air and spacecraft, but for the functional suppression of their optical and optoelectronic systems. This is achieved by exposure to a powerful laser pulse. "Peresvet" is said to be capable of "blinding" aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and satellites.
The laser system can be used to mask and cover the deployment of mobile missile systems. It covers a circular zone within a radius of 65-90 km. It is possible to affect reconnaissance satellites located at altitudes from 200 to 1100 km. At the same time, Peresvet does not affect spacecraft warning of a missile attack by a potential enemy, which are in significantly higher orbits and do not conduct species reconnaissance, but only record missile launches.
The characteristics of the Peresvet complex are not fully disclosed. It is known that specialists from the Special Engineering Design Bureau and the Start Research and Development SPC were responsible for the development of the laser guidance subsystem. The scientific and production association "Ray" has created an adaptive optical system for correcting laser radiation.
Some experts note that the efficiency of the laser complex directly depends on environmental conditions. In particular, various atmospheric phenomena, including fog, rain and snow, can significantly interfere with the passage of the laser beam.[1]
