2019: Announcement

In the middle of May, 2019 ABB announced start a blockchain system, the solar power intended for conducting trade operations in the market.

ABB implements the project together with the Italian energy company Evolvere, partners developed the Prosume blockchain platform. It is designed to provide transparent and safe transactions of p2p-transaction in power and also to study a blockchain role in the field of "smart" power supply networks.

ABB started a blockchain system for sale of solar energy

As reported in ABB to the PV Tech edition, a project objective is creation of inverters (components of the solar power station which will transform a direct current) capable to work with blockchain technology which will allow participants of the energy market to lower both capital, and operating costs.

Now producers which use own electrical systems can not only make and use energy which they create, but also to share any excess energy between neighbors, communities and wider network. The project with Evolvere allowed us to develop the viable and checked solutions for the market waiting for emergence of new dynamics and a regulatory framework for implementation of technology of a blockchain — the head of department of ABB of Smart Power Business   Giampiero Frisio noted.

He added that the blockchain is capable to provide to the market the powerful platform on the basis of which it will be possible to create new solutions for energy exchange.

The chief executive of Evolvere Franco Giampetruzzi says that the company "aims to extend advantages of the distributed generation of energy using  technology of intelligent networks  that house owners could understand as far as we are close to sharing energy with other consumers".[1]
