2021: Start using electric fire engines in the USA

At the end of March 2021, electric fire engines began to be used in Arizona. The cost of a novelty called Rosenbauer, which looks like a bus with a futuristic design, reaches $1 million.

Depending on the version, the Rosenbauer fire engine can be equipped with a battery of 50 kWh or 100 kWh. The main power source is a 272 hp six-cylinder diesel engine, which also acts as a generator for recharging batteries.

The total weight of the fire engine is 18 tons, its dimensions are as follows: height - 2.90 m, width - 2.35 m, length - 7.30 m with a wheelbase of 3800 mm. Versions with 4100 mm and 4400 mm wheelbases are also available.

Rosenbauer has fast charging: an 80% car can reach in an hour. Recharging the vehicle is also possible from the usual electric grid, however, with the help of a special Rosenbauer system, the car becomes a power source, that is, various devices can be recharged from it, including fire equipment.

It is known that such special vehicles have already acquired the fire services of Dubai, Berlin and Amsterdam. A representative of Rosenbauer notes that a typical fire engine usually costs about $700 thousand, while their truck is estimated at just under $1 million.

Rosenbauer first introduced the Concept Fire Engine in 2016. The manufacturer's study describes mega-trends such as global warming, demographic change and urbanization, as well as the problems that these changes pose for fire officials. According to the manufacturer, the use of electric drives allowed to create a new type of automotive architecture, which will be fully adapted to future scenarios.[1]
