SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP BW) is a platform for storage and data analysis and also their use for acceptance of management decisions.

In a basis of storage the multidimensional data model is put. The SAP BW program has the structure tied to logic of management of the delivered business challenges.

A system provides:

  • automatic collecting of necessary data through a certain period using the configured task scheduler;
  • storage of relevant data with that detail level which was set at system implementation;
  • the multidimensional analysis of data retrieveds on the basis of OLAP technology;
  • reporting preparation in the different business directions;
  • tracking of adverse factors with color selection of an aberration.

2016: Release of SAP BW/4HANA

In September, 2016 SAP announced an output to the market the solution of new generation for storage and analytics of data in real time — SAP BW/4HANA. In addition to traditional on-premise of the version, the application will be also unrolled in cloud services of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SAP Enterprise Cloud HANA.

According to statements of the developer, SAP BW/4HANA allows to organize "smart storage" which in real time provides historical and continuous data of the company, both from internal, and from external sources. The solution includes the open data warehouse for application development, the optimized user interface, enhanced capabilities of processing of a large number of data and support of cloud services — AWS and SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud.

Among advantages of the new platform bring into SAP a possibility of integrated management of data, higher, in comparison with classical SAP BW, performance at the expense of the latest built-in analytics, the accelerated development of application programs, cutting of costs for management and storage due to automatic distribution of temperature data, effective migration and implementation of storage with the unified management of data loading and full-scale support and also the simplified transition for clients with SAP Business Warehouse on SAP BW/4HANA.

Business applications, including based on SAP S/4HANA, will have an opportunity to use as already existing data warehouses and which were more standardized developed in the environment of SQL.

The new solution can be integrated with SAP BusinessObjects Cloud and also has the built-in connection to SAP Digital Boardroom.

Along with release of SAP BW/4HANA the company will provide new certification of instans of X1 with the optimized amount of data from AWS company. It will cover large-scale implementations to 7 nodes and memory with a total amount of 14 TB.

SAP BW/4HANA answers vision of SAP company about the data warehouse of the next generation since it allows to reduce considerably movement and duplication of information during the analysis, despite its location, whether it be in SAP HANA Vora or in internal/external sources of the company. The solution also integrates stream information and collected from sensors of Internet of Things (IoT), doing possible its processing in SAP HANA. Processes of the analysis and compression of "cold", "warm" and "hot" data will take place much quicker and at smaller costs for their storage, - say in SAP.

2014: SAP Business Warehouse 7.4

On April 21, 2014 the SAP AG company announced a release of version 7.4 of the SAP solution Business Warehouse (SAP BW) on the SAP HANA platform with new architecture of data of "in-memory".

Architecture of data of "in-memory" — key difference of the latest version of SAP Business Warehouse on the basis of SAP HANA. SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 in the enterprise is used at the semantic level, integrating all operations on data storage, the business analysis and management in a uniform business context. Simplifying data modeling, data access, providing data and management of them due to use of architecture of data of "in-memory", SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 gives to end users the chance to receive the up-to-date contextual caused information in real time.

In the new version the technology of the "smart" SAP HANA data access is applied that allows the end user to integrate virtually information from different sources or systems without its physical movement. In the version of SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 the processes requiring processing of a large number of information such as transformation of data, planning and OLAP functions, are transferred to SAP HANA. It leads to substantial increase of performance, obtaining results in real time and to acceleration of data loading.

2011

Start of SAP BW based on SAP HANA

The SAP solution NetWeaver Business Warehouse based on SAP HANA was started in November, 2011. In five months the solution reached the indicators sufficient for its transition to the general access. According to SAP, many clients when using the solution based on HANA noted significant increase in performance at request processing, significant reduction of load time and compression of "Big Data", noticeable reduction of amount of data during the preserving and backup. It is the first step which will allow to use the platform for work with data in real time as for their storage, and the analysis? noted in SAP.

Compatibility with Oracle Exadata

In the summer of 2011 SAP reported that its applications based on architecture of SAP NetWeaver 7.x such as SAP ERP and SAP Business Warehouse (BW) which received certificates on compatibility with the Oracle database of Database 11g of Release 2 can be developed using the database machines Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2 and X2-8 now. The hardware and software system Oracle Exadata which number of installations exceeded 1000 is the checked platform for accomplishment of crucial business applications of SAP. Oracle Database is the database for OLTP-and BW-applications of SAP.
