2025: Product Announcement

In August 2025, NRNU MEPhI introduced an innovative system for intuitive control of civilian unmanned aerial vehicles called SkyControl, which allows you to control drones using hand gestures. The high-tech glove synchronizes with the aircraft and transmits the operator's movements to it in real time. The first working copies are planned to be introduced into the system of additional education in the fall of 2025.

The initial technical concept of the system belongs to the student of Samara University Daniil Zaitsev. Most of the participants in the development team combine origin from the Kurgan region.

SkyControl glove

The SkyControl device is a hand-worn high-tech glove equipped with a set of sensors for tracking movements. The drone synchronized with the system accurately repeats the movements of the operator's hand - when the hand is raised up, the device gains altitude, when pulled to the right, it flies in the appropriate direction.

The key advantage of the system is intuitive control, which allows even unprepared users to quickly learn the skills of piloting civilian UAVs. A novice operator is able to go through a simple track on a virtual simulator within 10 minutes after acquaintance with the device.

SkyControl's technical basis is a sensor system that includes gyroscopes, magnetometers and accelerometers. These components fix the position of the user's hand in space, transmit data to the controller, which then sends control signals to the drone over a radio channel.[1]
