2022: Device Announcement
On July 11, 2022, Smith + Nephew introduced smart glasses for surgeons. The manufacturer also announced cooperation with Rods & Cones in order to further develop digital remote assistance.
The device from Smith + Nephew for minimally invasive surgery, according to the developers, easily connects to the secure interface of remote expert Rods & Cones, allowing the user to monitor and attend the operation as if he were in the operating room, with an accurate review by a surgeon or other medical professional.
This solution has already begun to be used by the UK National Health Service (NHS) and a number of other customers. Smith + Nephew plans to expand its ability to provide technical support for the safe and efficient use of its products at the right time from anywhere in the world. The company said that increasing the complexity of surgical operations, the development of technologies and the need to improve productivity and efficiency allow for the remote availability of a specialist to provide the best knowledge exactly when necessary, but with the least interference.

The advances they have made in medical technology, particularly in the repair, regeneration and replacement of soft and hard tissues, are astonishing. This partnership between Smith + Nephew and Rods & Cones will be a big step forward and together we will change healthcare for the better, "said Rods & Cones CEO and founding partner Bruno Dheedene. }} The glasses will receive high-definition bone-conducting speakers built into the arms. A technology has been implemented to reduce the audibility of sounds from speakers by strangers. The model also has two microphones protected from wind and extraneous noise. Work with voice commands and assistants is supported. The device supports simultaneous connection of two users and switching between devices with one press of the highlighted key.[1]
