Tecnis Eyhance (intraocular lens)

2019: Announcement

On February 4, 2019 the Johnson&Johnson company released an intraocular lens (IOL) of Tecnis Eyhance intended for patients with a cataract.

As reported in the press release, Tecnis Eyhance there is IOL of new generation which provides to patients return of normal sight both to relatives, and in a long distance. Tekhnlogiya was developed with the purpose to improve sight at average distance in comparison with standard aspherical monofocal IOL. Though lenses of the previous generations provided an opportunity to better see objects in a long distance, patients with a cataract all the same had to wear glasses for accomplishment of daily affairs, such as work at the computer or driving of the car.

According to the producer, IOL Eyhance provide good sight afar and at the same time considerably improve sight at average distance. The last is important achievement as allows patients to execute certain types of daily activity independently. The division of Johnson & Johnson Vision says that in clinical trial promising results were received – IOL Tecnis Eyhance returned to patients confidence and allowed to carry out those tasks which caused considerable difficulties, for example, walking on an uneven surface earlier. Many patients noted that they could do favorite things or a hobby which they had to leave because of problems with sight again.

Johnson & Johnson received a line of lenses of Tecnis after acquisition of division of medical optics of Abbott Laboratories company for $4.3 billion at the beginning of 2017. IOL Tecnis Eyhance was approved by the European regulatory bodies therefore at first the Johnson & Johnson company started sales of the device in Britain, Italy, France, Spain and Germany.^[1]
