2020: The announcement of Transcribe in Word - function of record and interpretation of audio in Word

On August 25, 2020 Microsoft released the Transcribe in Word function for transcribing and record of audio which is built in the Word text editor.

So far only English is supported (American). The corporation reported that already work on adding of other languages, but did not specify, what is the time it will borrow.

Function works as follows. Before dialog with the interlocutor the user selects function from the Word menu and clicks the beginning of conversation recording. After the conversation is complete, the user clicks preserving of a conversation and its conversion to the text. After processing which time depends on conversation duration in a window in Word there is a text of a conversation which can be copied in the Word document.

Function separates speakers on voices and locates remarks in a structural order. As a result the user receives both an audio recording of a conversation, and its text interpretation. The audiofile can be sent to the interlocutor (record will be performed by WAV, MP4, M4A or MP3).

Interpretation and the audiofile are attached to the document. At the same time all written audiofiles are located in the special folder on OneDrive. In addition, function supports interpretation of the loaded audiofiles. The button for loading of record is located in the same window where also the button began records. After loading of the file and its processing in a window interpretation also appears.

Function is available in the web version of the web version of Word to all users of Microsoft 365. At the same time there is a restriction: within a month it is impossible to load audiofiles for interpretation lasting more than 5 hours, and the size of each file should not exceed 200 MB. In mobile version of Word function will appear until the end of 2020.

In addition to Transcribe in Word, the Microsoft text editor supports dictation. She allows to use conversion of the speech to the text for creation of content in Office, using the microphone and connection to the Internet.^[1]
