Availability of wireless connection to the Internet on LiFi in buses

On November 19, 2019 the Signify company reported that it implemented a pilot project within which broadband Internet connection through light waves based on the solution Trulifi became available in buses. Trulifi will provide high quality of communication and also will allow each passenger to regulate system operation of air conditioning and level of lighting over sitting and even to order a power supply on a trip. It will be possible to manage these functions via the display located on a back ahead of the standing chair.

Availability of wireless connection to the Internet on LiFi in buses

According to the company, the project was started together with Ellamp Spa, the Italian supplier of home decoration and components for vehicles. Its purpose − to make systems management of conditioning, lighting and multimedia in the bus more comfortable using the personal user devices working on LiFi. In the future, when telecommunication operators will provide support of broadband communication in transport, passengers will be able to use the solution of Trulifi for connection of personal devices to the Internet.

Trulifi uses individual LED lighting over seats in link quality of data transmission. Instead of use of the general networks working in radio frequency range, each passenger is connected to network through a light source over the head. It ensures the increased safety of connection as the covering of LiFi-network is limited to the lit space. Fluctuations at the movement of the bus have no impact on the signal extended by means of lighting therefore it differs in stability. Also the illumination level does not influence it: in link quality of communication infrared section of a range which is not perceived by an eye of the person is used.

Earlier Signify announced cooperation with the French company Latécoère, the supplier of aircraft electric equipment and avionics for the international producers of the aircraft equipment. The solutions Trulifi will be used in passenger airplanes for connection to communication of the multimedia systems located in seatbacks.

The LiFi technology gives the chance to reduce the mass of the airplane and to reduce fuel consumption due to replacement of copper cables by optical systems of data transmission. Besides, connection using LED lighting will not create radio interference for operation of other equipment of the airplane. In the future passengers will have an opportunity of use of the multimedia systems of the airplane together with personal devices.

The announcement of bulbs modems with optical Li-Fi technology

On June 20, 2019 Philips provided the bulbs modems using optical Li-Fi technology for wireless data transmission at a speed up to 250 Mbps.

The new line received the name Trulifi and includes three devices:

  • Trulifi 6001. This system uses a visible light and provides speed to 30 Mbps. The Li-Fi transceiver is mounted in a LED lamp of Philips PowerBalance and provides a covering with a diameter of 2 meters at installation at the height of 2 meters and with a diameter of 3 meters at installation at the height of 2.5 meters.

  • Trulifi 6002. This system uses infrared section of a range, providing the general speed in 150 Mbps.

  • Trulifi 6013. An information transmission system the point-to-point using color light. Allows to create the channel with a speed up to 250 Mbps in both directions at distance to 8 meters.

To use high-speed connection on Li-Fi technology, to users not obkhodimo to purchase the special receiver which is connected to the notebook, the tablet, etc. This adaptation is similar to the USB modem.

Philips released the bulbs modems using light for data transmission at a speed of 250 Mbps

At the time of the beginning of sales of a bulb of Trulifi are focused on use in the companies, hospitals and different public institutions. The producer also expects penetration of technology in houses that he will allow it to achieve much wider audience of clients.
