Violeds (LEDs for disinfection)

2020: Announcement

At the beginning of April, 2020 the Sensor Electronic Technology (SETi) company provided LEDs which provide destruction of 99.9% of coronaviruses (COVID-19) in 30 seconds. Tests of the Violeds technology developed in cooperation with Seoul Viosys were carried out by research group of the Korean university.

Seoul Seoul Viosys from South Korea and SETi from the USA specialize only in difficult semiconductor technologies. SETi registered more than 14,000 patents and annually spends more than $100 million for researches.

The Violeds technology uses an ultra-violet LED for sterilization and deodorization. This system was developed by Seoul Viosys together with SETi in 2005 for sterilization of premises without use of chemicals which can be harmful to the person. The Violeds technology was used for sterilization of the space station NASA, but before its commercial application was limited as service life of LEDs was too short for long-term use. However since 2019 the new patented technology allowed to prolong service life of LEDs for 50,000 hours therefore Violeds became an optimal solution for air purification and water.

In the research SETi and Seoul Viosys proved that the Violeds technology on the basis of UF-LEDs can successfully be used for sterilization of premises in the conditions of COVID-19 pandemic. The research also showed that the effect of sterilization grows at reduction of distance to a source of UV-radiation and at longer influence. The Violeds technology allows to destroy not only a coronavirus, but also 99.9% of other activators, such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus Aureus, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Klebsiella Pneumonlae and Salmonella Typhimurium.^[1]
