2020: Implementation of smart scales
X5 Retail Group developed and implemented smart scales with computer vision. The retailer reported about it on April 23, 2020.
A system independently distinguishes weight goods, including fruit, vegetables and candies, even in a packet. The equipment is installed on the existing weight platform and includes the camera and the computing module which transfer data to the general neuronet.
Scales were tested in 10 Pyaterochka shops. According to the results of tests the accuracy of object recognition was up to 98.4%. In process of testing the neuronet which was used in the system of computer vision constantly studied and increased recognition accuracy, noted in X5 Retail Group.
New development is intended to accelerate time of transactions at the checkout, it is safer and more convenient to make process of purchases for clients. It is expected that such technology is capable to increase capacity only of one shop by 20 thousand people a year and to save to sellers not less than 1300 hours of time for customer service for the same period.
Smart scales" allow to optimize transactions: the buyer does not need to look for self-service scales, and to personnel – to remember a product code — the director of operations and to retail technologies of retail chain stores Pyaterochka Sergey Popov says. — Important, as cashiers within the pilot noted convenience of a system and significant acceleration of transactions. |
According to him, in assortment of Pyaterochka shop about 160-180 different weight goods are on average provided. The cashier's task during the work with such goods – to find goods in the hierarchical menu on the keyboard or on memory to hammer PLU from 3-8 digits.
In X5 Retail Group made the decision to set 500 more smart scales in 100 shops of Pyaterochka network. Also integration a system with cash desks of self-service is planned.[1]
