2024: Digital shell for university campus under construction begins

Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University has begun a large-scale project to create an advanced digital shell for the university campus under construction. The project is carried out within the framework of the program for creating world-class campuses, initiated by the President of the Russian Federation. The university announced this on May 22, 2024.

Anastasia Rusakova, Director of the Project Management Directorate of BFU named after I. Kanta, said that the university's digital environment will be a unique metaverse that integrates personalized services into the daily, intellectual and social life of students and teachers.

Modern university is not just about physical walls and audiences. To obtain a high-quality education and realize research potential, university people need advanced analytics tools, work with big data, and communication networks. We are creating a digital environment that will allow students, teachers and scientists to effectively interact, exchange knowledge and ideas regardless of their specialization and location, "said Anastasia Rusakova.

According to her, the digital shell will include services such as personal assistants for campus logistics, integration with various partner services for everyday tasks (from ordering food to banking), individual collections of materials and data for research tasks, advanced analytics tools and much more. It is important to note that these solutions are developed with the direct participation of students, teachers and scientists of BFU named after Kant, taking into account their real needs and wishes.

The creation of the campus's digital environment is in parallel with the construction of its physical infrastructure and should be completed by the time the campus opens in 2025. At the same time, the developed digital solutions are planned to be tested at existing university facilities even before the campus is put into operation.
