2019: Agreement signature on delivery of power units for cruise liners
On December 17, 2019 the ABB company announced that it signed the agreement worth 157 million euros on delivery of the power and propulsive systems and also digital solutions for six courts of a universal class of Genting Hong Kong company.
According to the company, court will be constructed according to standards of security and environment protection. They will be set in motion by the electrical Azipod ABB propulsive system.
Each of 286-meter courts will have two Azipod installations with a total power of 30 MW (40,230 hp). In a fuel quality the liquefied natural gas which is characterized by the low level of emissions will be used. Vessels will be constructed by the MV Werften company belonging to Genting which production sites are located in Germany in the cities of Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund. Delivery of cruise liners is planned for 2023-2024.
Six 15-deck courts will represent cruise liners with a capacity from 1000 to 4000 passengers depending on a cruise class (luxury, a premium or the standard). Genting will become operator of these courts on behalf of the hotel brands which are going to master a segment of shipping, but facing obstacles in the form of employment of most ship-building shipyards.
Liners can be connected to infrastructure of the centers of joint work of ABB Ability (ABB Ability Collaborative Operations Center) which controls parameters of technology of ABB onboard and allows operators to contact specialists of ABB far off.
Cruise tourism for December, 2019 purchases the increasing popularity, and according to data of International association of cruise lines (CLIA) the expected number of the people who went to cruise travel will be 30 million in 2019 that is 6% more in comparison with 2018. In addition to growth of number of the tourists preferring cruise rest, CLIA announces also increase in sensibleness of passengers who want that on the vessel eco-friendly technologies were used.
The propulsive Azipod system which electric motor is located in a submersible gondola outside a hull can rotate by 360 degrees that increases maneuverability and operational efficiency. Besides, at the expense of the noise floor and vibration she guarantees the increased comfort of passengers and crew members.
