2023: Creating a Digital Replica of the University Campus
Peter the Great Polytechnic will have a double: scientists and students create a digital copy of the university's campus. The university announced this on July 13, 2023.
The campus information model underlying the MetaCampus Polytech project is a digital replica of the university's main buildings and grounds and is a database for various services such as property management, infrastructure and classroom fund management, training schedule, campus navigation, organization and planning of major and ongoing renovations, security management, and the creation and storage of the SPbPU digital asset. This campus model makes it possible to assess the potential of the premises and the possibility of their transformation for more rational use, to choose the right audience for the teacher's need for multimedia means and to speed up evacuation in emergency situations.
MetaCampus Polytech is a large-scale interdisciplinary project aimed at creating a virtual ecosystem of the university, which includes both teachers-specialists in the field of BIM technologies, artificial intelligence and programming, and students of various courses and directions.
It is especially valuable for us as a university development team that this project involves a very large number of students: they receive practical skills that will increase their value in the market in the future, and at the same time contribute to the digital transformation of the university. In the future, I would like to include the results of the project in the ecosystem of the digital information model of St. Petersburg and scale the project to the federal network of MetaCampuses of universities, "said Maria Vrublevskaya, head of the strategic planning and development programs department of SPBPU. |
The project provides for the possibility of using MetaCampus by various categories of users: from schoolchildren and applicants, who can walk around the virtual campus of the Polytechnic, get acquainted with the historical certificate of the university, remotely connect to an open house, interesting events or see what laboratories and educational spaces of the university look like, before university leaders planning to use MetaCampus Polytech as an analytics tool, making management decisions and positioning the university in the scientific, technological and educational space, Marina Petrochenko, project manager, associate professor of the Higher School of Industrial, Civil and Road Construction of ISI SPbPU, noted. |
