Yota Group implemented the system of the deep analysis of network traffic

Content

On March 7, 2014 it became known of end by the companies Yota and "Jet Infosystems" the project on implementation of a complex of dynamic traffic management on the platform Procera and the software product of the company "Jet Infosystems" Jet Subscriber Manager.

Project Tasks

The growing popularity of network caused increase in volumes of the consumed traffic and led the company to the decision on need of preventive measures on prevention of critical overloads and optimization of traffic.

Solving the standing problems, Yota organized competition on class DPI system implementation. The best solution was proposed by Jet Infosystems company.

Project Progress

The pilot carried out in St. Petersburg. Inclusion [1] Networks in network infrastructure helped to understand and see structure of the passing traffic by services on interactivity degree.

For priority control of services and control of overloads it was required to integrate a complex with [2] existing in Yota into networks [2]. DPI analyzes content only by services, and the PCRF system which is directly connected with LTE and BSS (a subsystem of base stations), always has up-to-date information about network condition. Interfaces for interaction of two complexes were provided by the JSM software product.

The joint project team created and configured the universal management model network consisting from more than thousands of rules. The main operating principle – at any fluctuations of traffic advantage in speed is got by interactive services, at the same time work of other applications remains stable.

Traffic management of base stations in the conditions of overloads is in conclusion implemented. In case of their loading for 100%, PCRF gives the DPI system a command about use of additional mechanisms of determination of priorities of traffic. At the same time the complex in real time flexibly adapts to the changing conditions (change of number of subscribers, signal degradation in bad weather, existence of noise and noises from the neighboring stations or buildings, etc.), and as a result users receive service of higher quality.

Project Results

The solution is replicated in the cities: Moscow, Sochi, Samara, Krasnodar, Vladivostok and Novosibirsk. In each region setup of rules for determination of priorities – proceeding from the received statistics and a consumption pattern of services is carried out. Works were carried out in parallel and project implementation took eight months.

"The new complex allowed to improve significantly providing service to subscribers and to adapt dynamically to a current status of infrastructure of network, – the technical director of the company of Yotaandrey Nesterov summed up the results. – Use the Internet became more comfortable. At the same time we managed to refuse permanent expansion of external communication channels, to increase the capacity of network that in general allowed to reduce capital costs".
"The ratio between different content types can change (as in certain regions, and in general), besides the operator periodically brings new tariff offers to the market, – Andrey Yashin, the director of business development of Jet Infosystems company noted. – All this requires regular correction of the created algorithms therefore today we continue cooperation with Yota regarding optimization of scenarios of Internet access".
