2025: Opening of the Museum of Russian Theater named after F.A. Iskander in Sukhum

In August 2025, the general director of the Bakhrushinsky Theater Museum Kristina Trubinova and the Minister of Culture of Abkhazia Daur Kove signed a cooperation agreement, including a number of cultural and educational initiatives in the republic. Among the key areas of cooperation are the creation of the Children's Center, the launch of scientific and educational programs, as well as the opening of the New Museum of the State Russian Drama Theater named after F. A. Iskander in the city of Sukhum, scheduled for August 26, 2025.

One of the first projects implemented under the agreement will be the New Museum of the State Russian Drama Theater named after F. A. Iskander. The exposition will feature more than 120 unique exhibits from the collection of the theater and funds of the Bakhrushin Museum: posters, archival documents, photographic materials and other artifacts. Guests of the museum will be able to trace the path of one of the leading theaters in Abkhazia from the early 1980s to the present day. Among the artifacts is Alenushka's dress from the first performance of the Scarlet Flower Theater, staged in 1981 based on the play by I.V. Karnaukhova and L.T. Brausevich.

A special place in the exposition of the museum will be occupied by the recreated office of the outstanding Russian writer, journalist, public figure Fazil Abdulovich Iskander, whose name the theater has been bearing since 2017. The new museum will be the first memorial space in the writer's homeland, which gives the project a special cultural and historical significance.

The museum in Sukhum will be the fifth project implemented within the framework of the federal program "New Theater Museum."
