2023: City courts have been down for a month due to ransomware virus attack

In early June 2023, it was reported that Dallas courts in Texas could not fully resume work for a month due to a ransomware attack. Cybercriminals also disabled a number of computer systems from the city's fire and police departments.

Cyber ​ ​ intrusion began on May 3, 2023. City officials said the attackers compromised several servers, affecting many information systems, including the Dallas Police Department website as well as court networks. In addition, critical infrastructure was affected. The attack turned out to be so large-scale and destructive that the police were forced to switch to paper records. Firefighters said the calls come into life-threatening situations as information transmitted digitally from dispatchers is not available. All Dallas municipal courts were forced to close.

Dallas courts fail to fully reopen for a month

The cybercriminal group Royal claimed responsibility for the invasion. Ransom messages were printed by attackers through printers connected to hacked computer systems. The authorities said that the efforts of information security specialists are focused on the restoration of socially significant services and services.

It is noted that groups of experts "work day and night" to eliminate the consequences of the attack as soon as possible, but it is not possible to completely solve the problems that have arisen. Experts admit that it will take weeks to fully restore the performance of urban IT services. At the same time, the city authorities do not exclude the likelihood of paying the ransom, stating that "they are studying all options for eliminating the consequences of the incident." What information could have been stolen by cybercriminals during this large-scale attack is not reported.^[1]

2021: Dallas police accidentally permanently delete 8 TB of criminal case data
