The Day of Russian Science — on February 8

On February 8, 1724 (on January 28 on old style) the decree of the ruling Senate according to Peter I's order in Russia founded Academy of Sciences. In 1925 it was renamed into Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1991 - into the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1999 the Decree of the Russian President of June 7 this day founded a holiday of the Russian scientists — thus the authorities marked the 275th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is important to notice that in Soviet period the Day of science was celebrated on the third Sunday of April. When choosing date were guided by the fact that in 1918 between April 18 and 25 V.I. Lenin made "The sketch plan of scientific and technical works". About one today many research teams celebrate the Day of science "on old", i.e., on the third Sunday of April
