What is the ID card in Belarus
The ID card in Belarus is an internal identity document. It represents a plastic smart card with the integrated microcircuit containing electronic means of biometric identification and a cryptographic token of authentication.
The photo of the card holder and his personal data is applied on the ID card. Visual information is similar to data which are in the normal passport: Full name, date of birth, nationality, floor, number, type and validity period of the document, signature of the owner.
However unlike the valid passport the name of the body which issued the document will be printed in the form of the code of this body, the same data contain also on the chip of the card with the program for development of the electronic digital signature. Additional data, for example a place of registration, the information about children, defects, are absent on the ID card and will contain in the state information systems and resources.

2021: Beginning of issue
In January, 2021 in Belarus issue of biometric passports and ID cards for all comers begins. On January 5 the deputy chief of Department on nationality and migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Pavel Hrishchenovich reported about it.
According to him, more exact date of issue of biometric documents will become known "after adoption of the relevant document" which will be signed "in the nearest future".
Single-step replacement of current passports will not be. It is not necessary even to run after the declaration of the date of entry into force of a regulatory legal act in divisions on nationality and migration and to receive biometric documents. The current passport will work to the term of its termination — Hrishchenovich told. |
He specified that the citizen of Belarus from 14 years will receive the ID card which will work within the country. For pensioners and disabled people its cost will be about 29 Belarusian rubles ($11 at the rate of for January 5, 2021), to all other citizens — 43.5 Belarusian rubles (about $17).
The ID card ― is the document for confirmation of the personality and receiving electronic services within the country. The biometric passport is intended for trips abroad, its cost will be 59 Belarusian rubles ($22.5).[1]
