2025: Launch of smart cameras in Kazan that recognize drug mortgages
In early September 2025, it became known that smart video surveillance cameras capable of recognizing drug mortgages were being introduced in Kazan. The platform is being developed within the framework of the Uram project based on artificial intelligence.
The initiative started in 2023: its goal was initially to create a system for recognizing and accounting for stray dogs. Thanks to the use of AI algorithms, the number of dogs caught in the first half of 2024 increased by 46% compared to the same period the previous year. The system contributes to a decrease in the number of bites by stray dogs per thousand people, as well as an increase in the comfort and safety of citizens.
Further development of the Uram project involves the use of AI to identify persons who bookmark retail drug shipments in secluded places. In addition, AI is planned to be used to recognize other events and abnormal situations, such as street fights, people falls, etc.
"I am sure that the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies in the very near future will change, among other things, our idea of organizing public safety and comfortable living," says the Minister of Digital Development of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Tatarstan Airat Khairullin.
In turn, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan Leysan Abzalilova said that the region intends to become one of the centers for the development of trusted AI and unmanned technologies in Russia. It is planned to introduce AI in all spheres of life - from economics and transport to medicine and education. To this end, special test sites are being formed, regional infrastructure is developing, and work with startups is underway.[1]
