History

2015: Check Point joined AirWatch Mobile Security Alliance

In September, 2015 Check Point Software Technologies, the vendor specializing only in Internet security joined alliance of producers of programs for mobile security of AirWatch Mobile Security Alliance as the cofounder.

Together Check Point and AirWatch will develop new methods of protection for the growing number of the devices having access to corporate data and networks and will provide to customers the full solution for prevention of mobile threats prior to the beginning of infection.

In the last decade mobile devices turned not only into one of the most powerful accelerators of business, but also into the most serious threat for its security. According to the report on security of Check Point 2015, 91% of respondents noted increase in number of personal mobile devices of the employees connected to corporate network. The fact that nearly a half of these organizations does not take any actions for control of these devices and their protection causes a concern. The research also showed that existing solutions leave IT systems vulnerable, provide a limited set of security management and are not capable to detect and to proactively eliminate advanced threats.

As the member of new alliance Check Point performed large-scale integration of the solution for prevention of mobile threats of Mobile Threat Prevention into the platform of management of corporate mobility of AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management. This integration allowed to create the solution on mobile security leading in the class thanks to which the companies will be able to take all key advantages of the products Check Point:

  • The innovative technology providing the highest percent of detection of threats in the industry.
  • The only corporate solution for mobile security which detects threats at the level of the device, the application and network.
  • The transparent user experience providing immediate detection and elimination of mobile threats that allows users to save safe connection to corporate resources.

AirWatch bypasses BlackBerry and becomes the market leader of EMM

At the beginning of July, 2015 the IDC analytical company published results of a research of the world market of the software in the field of management of corporate mobility. The only producer at which sales of this software decline is BlackBerry.

According to calculation of IDC, the size of the market of EMM solutions in 2014 was $1.4 billion, having increased by 27.2% in comparison with previous year. Before specialists predicted rise for 22%. In the market strong fragmentation and dense fight where even small recession of vendor can discard it on several positions back is still observed.

So happened to BlackBerry at which proceeds from sales of software in the field of management of corporate mobility dropped by 16.7% in 2014 — to $133.8 million. As a result the Canadian company rolled down from the first on the third place in the rating of the leading vendors, having conceded to AirWatch and Good Technology.

The newly made leader of AirWatch finished 2014 with revenue in the market in $161.1 million that is 78% more in comparison with the 2013th. This rise was the highest among all producers. A market share of AirWatch — 11.4%.

VMware buys AirWatch

In January, 2014 the VMware company and AirWatch company announced agreement signature according to which VMware purchases AirWatch, the decision maker on mobile device management. VMware buys AirWatch for about $1.175 billion cash and $365 million in the form of the spread payments and capital investments. The AirWatch command will continue to submit to the founder and the chief executive officer of the company John Marshall as a part of division of VMware on computing environments for end users which is directed by Sanjay Poonen, the executive vice president and the general manager of VMware. Alan Dabbiere, the co-founder and the chairman of AirWatch, will exercise control of new council of management of AirWatch which will be accountable Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of VMware.

AirWatch, the private company located in Atlanta, the State of Georgia, the USA is the leading enterprise solution provider for mobile device management, applications and content for the enterprises of different level. Clients of AirWatch are more than 10,000 organizations worldwide, about 1600 employees work at nine global offices of the company. The office in Atlanta will extend and will become the center of mobile division VMware.

Acquisition of AirWatch will expand division of computing environments for end users of VMware company; offers of AirWatch will create an expanded portfolio of mobile solutions which will add a product line of VMware company. Absorption was approved by Boards of Directors of both companies and, as expected, will come to the end by the end of the first quarter 2014, depending on the solution of regulating authorities and conditions of closing of the transaction. Purchase will be made at the expense of a combination of balance of money and receipts from about $1 billion an additional debt which will be provided ​​ to EMC. VMware will also continue the current program of redemption of stocks.

In February, 2014 it is announced completion of the transaction on acquisition of AirWatch company, leading manufacturer of solutions on mobile device management. On January 22, 2014 VMware announced purchase of AirWatch for about $1.181 billion cash and $364 million in the form of the spread payments and capital investments.

With completion of the transaction the AirWatch command, continuing to submit to the founder and the former CEO John Marshall, is in the structure of the VMware End-User Computing group. Alan Dabbiere, the co-founder and the chairman of AirWatch, will exercise control of new council of management of AirWatch which is accountable Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of VMware.
