All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics named after E.I. Zababakhina

The Russian Federal Nuclear Center - All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics named after Academician E.I. Zababakhin (RFNC-VNIITF) is the largest scientific organization for the creation of nuclear weapons and fundamental and applied research in such areas as:

History

2023: Start of construction of electronics test center, including for spacecraft

Rosatom began building an electronics test center in the Urals, including for spacecraft. The press service of the state corporation announced this on August 30, 2023.

The project is being implemented at the Russian Federal Nuclear Center - the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics named after Academician Zababakhin (RFNC-VNIITF, ZATO Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk Region). The center is planned to be equipped with modern sources of electron beams, protons, neutrons and heavy charged particles to ensure certification tests of electronic components for resistance to various types of ionizing radiation and electromagnetic pulses.

To predict the behavior of equipment in outer space, it is necessary to conduct tests in terrestrial conditions, "says Oleg Tkachev, deputy head of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics department. - All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics is one of the basic organizations where a modern complex will be built, which will allow to simulate the action of cosmic radiation and other radiation of artificial origin.

As noted in Rosatom, the basis of this building will be a cyclotron capable of accelerating ions to an energy of 15 MeV/nucleon. Neutron generators, electron accelerators and a proton accelerator will also be located in this complex. After the construction of the test center, the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics not only in the country, but also in the world will become a unique organization with the entire range of competencies in the field of radiation tests, the state corporation said.

All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics is one of the key enterprises of the Rosatom nuclear weapons complex. The main task of the Snezhinsky nuclear center is to solve scientific and technical problems related to ensuring and maintaining the reliability and safety of Russia's nuclear weapons. All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics also solves problems in the nuclear-energy complex, nuclear medicine, super-computers and calculation technologies.^[1]

2022: Joining CAD/CAE Consortium

On July 5, 2022, Rosatom announced the signing of an agreement on the entry of another 15 participants into the CAD/CAE consortium, including FSUE All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics named after E.I. Zababakhin. Read more here.
