2021: Nvidia bought DeepMap

In mid-June 2021, chip manufacturer Nvidia announced the purchase of a card developer for unmanned vehicles DeepMap. The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed. It is assumed that the transaction will be closed in the third quarter of 2021.

Nvidia management believes that the merger with DeepMap will speed up the development of automatic driving technologies Nvidia Drive.

It is expected that DeepMap will expand our cartographic products, help us scale map operations around the world and expand our experience of fully autonomous driving, "said Nvidia representative Ali Kani.

One of the biggest problems on the way to the complete autonomy of a car is the achievement of proper localization and updating of map information reflecting current road conditions. Through the integration of DeepMap technology, Nvidia will be able to realize advanced capabilities for determining the location of a car on the road.

Startup DeepMap, founded by former employees, and Google Apple Baidu James Wu and Mark Wheeler, can use the software-defined Nvidia Drive platform to quickly scale its maps across AV fleets without using too much data storage. Nvidia undertakes to maintain its relationship with existing customers DeepMap and to fulfill all contractual obligations of the company. Nvidia also intends to invest in the partnership in the development of new DeepMap solutions.[1]
